    1.6GHz, 80GB HDD, 2GB RAM.

How long does it take for Safari to open? Pages? Keynote? iPhoto?

    More than five seconds?

It changes if it's a first boot off a reboot or second time, when memory has much of the application cached.

First time, it takes like maybe 2 to 3 seconds for Safari, maybe less than a second on second time. About same or 1 seconds slower for iWork I think. Didn't time precisely though, but just how I felt. SSD should do them all faster. But only for first boot, second time seems to do just about same, since they are cached on memory.

Most Apple programs start in less than 5 seconds. Its slower than a standard MacBook but not to the point of being annoying. Once they are running they are pretty normal, and of course restarting them once they have been started before in the same session is faster.

Using a utility like Xslimmer on many apps can improve start times noticeably. Its been a real boon for my lowly 1.6/80 making "ok" load performance turn "snappy" in many cases.
