On iOS 8 it takes my iPod Touch 5, one minute and 16 seconds to fully power up.
After holding down the power button, my iPod Touch shows an Apple logo for 36 seconds, then the screen suddenly goes dark. It takes waiting another full 40 seconds with nothing but an inactive dark screen before the familiar lock screen appears for the first time. This long dark screen step has only been occurring after updating to iOS 8.

Do other people get similar or different results?

That's not supposed to happen. It should be around 30 or 40 seconds.

Discovered something interesting. Just to try something, I haphazardly starting deleting my apps off the device. During this binge, each time I restarted the dark screen time was reduced. Start up time got down to only 50 seconds with about 100 apps still installed. This includes only 10 seconds where the dark goes dark. Start up time takes one minute and 15 seconds with my normal 220+ apps installed.

Under iOS 8, it appears that the more apps I have the greater amount of additional dark screen start up time my iPod Touch 5 requires.

Check the number of apps you have under General/About/Applications.
Compare that with your start up time.

I have 123 apps and it took 1 minute and 1 second, with about 13 seconds of darkness.

Ios 8 is obviously too heavy for all A5 devices.

My Iphone 4s/ Ipad 2 also took forever to start up. For iphone/ipad, you are either trade in or buy a newer gen. For ipod touch, we will have to see on Oct 16.
