How long for your drive to index?

I used disk utility to wipe my drive so I could do a fresh install of Yosemite. Just wondering how long it takes to re-index itself or if there is something I can do to do that. Currently I have Apps saying 1.6 GB and Other saying 8.2 GB. Want to get the 2 to merge and just say Apps. Thanks.

Depends how big the drive is ;-)

Not all the "Other" may be Apps so they may not merge in that way...

100% dependent on how much stuff it has to index. Impossible to answer. It could be a few minutes to a few days.

If it`s a "spinner" you will be waiting, if an SSD it will "done and dusted" typically the new multilane PCIE SSD`s are done in minutes, not hours or days.
