My first mac was bought on July 30th... sold that and plan on either getting a MacBook when Student Union rolls around again.

I used Macs since I was in elementary school till middle school. One thing I remembered about them distinctively was how much the system crashes.

Reason why I switched though was because I wanted to experience something new, something different, but not hard to learn like many of the distros of Linux. However, I still love Windows. :)

Learning other operating systems is a great reason to jump into other platforms.

I know how daunting the Linux world can be to beginners... along with Mac OS X you may want to try Sun's Solaris. Both of these operating systems provide nice consistent environments to learn what Unix is like before jumping into the more difficult (but rewarding) worlds of either Linux or BSD.

I really enjoy SGI's IRIX, but unfortunately it hasn't been kept up as nicely as Solaris in recent years. Add to that the fact that it is hardware dependent (on what can be expensive hardware) and the troubled future the company is facing and it makes it hard for me to recommend that path anymore (even though I love IRIX and the amount of time I spend on SGIs is second only to Apple based systems).

I actually began following OS X half way through Panther's life and waited for Tiger to come to consider a Mac.

Since March 03. Not entirely impressive considering my first computer was in 97. Well it was the family computer...

Wasn't there no System 5? Your story doesn't seem to hold water...

I actually been toying with ubuntu. I heard that is one of the most relatively "easier" Linux distros to use. Pretty cool, but still trying to get the hang of the terminal and how everything works out. Im too spoiled with GUIs :D

First memories of a computer are of the mac OS, that must of been at least 18 years ago.

Since then only macs in our house, with one exception, a windows laptop wich came free from dads work......it never got used.

Got my first taste of the Mac OS in late 1999 when someone gave me an old Performa 6250 CD, System 8.6 installed on it.

The next year I bought a new Pismo 500, then the next machine is this G4 800 12" iBook I'm using now.

In the duration I picked up, (from a member of this board), a Sawtooth 400 to dual boot into OS 9.2 for some of my older applications and devices.

Since November 2004... I recieved an OLD Power Macintosh 8500 with a G3 upgrade card and I put OS X Panther.. Later I purchased me an iBook G4. Since then I have also collected a Power Mac G4 733.

When I was little my Dad got a Performa 550 (System 7, many years later I got a G3 PowerMac from my Uncle for free (this was a year ago) and tasted OS 9 and then upgraded to OSX Panther...Fast Forward to now and I have a iMac G5.

So I guess you could say I've used a Mac my entire life.
