I am planning to get the ipod nano 8g and i had the ipod mini 4g before. I had the mini for 2yrs and someone i know thinks that that is a very short time for someone to have an ipod or mp3 player. I think that 2 yrs is pretty long for an ipod. How long is an ipod mini supposed to last when used daily and frequently?

The minis were known for having reliability issues. If you get a nano, which has flash-based storage, it will last longer. I have a second gen nano that's still working great, and still gets good battery life. I have had it for over 3 and a half years

My 2nd gen nano ran fine for nearly 4 years, and still had about 60% of battery capacity... before it was stolen last month :)mad: which sucks; it was my first :apple: hardware).

My Mini still works to date and is doing better than ever (circa 2004-2005) and my first gen Nano still works great too (2005).

Damn, I just realized its been almost 6 years with them and they are still going.

I have a Green 1st Generation Mini, and it is doing just fine.
The only parts that can "break" on their own are the battery, and the hard drive. With proper care though, you should only see the battery loose capacity.
I recently replaced my battery with a $2 chinese kit off of ebay. Now that i'm over my fear of it exploding, I can get better than the advertised battery life on the box.
