My commute to university was 3.5 hours every day;
Walk to bus stop- 15 minutes
Bus to town centre- 60
Walk to neighbouring city and uni- 30

Bus from uni to other city centre- 10
Walk to other bus stop & Boots meal deal- 15
Bus near home- 60
Walk to home- 10

College was an hour. School was half an hour (or 1.5 hours walk which I preferred).
But I loved it, made good use of my iPod and DS. Always had my best ideas when travelling. Now I work from home.

Does the M8 allow scooters, etc??

An electric bike would be perfect for you.

The only restriction is on engine size, 125cc, I think. You can buy scooters (twist & go step throughs) up to 500cc  and need a full motorbike license to ride them (which I've got.) I've currently got what is described as a 50cc on the registration document  but it's still not quite quick enough for 5 miles of motorway.

Never considered an electric bike, was just going to buy a Gary Fisher to keep in shape and buy something like a 650cc V-twin for the other days. I should really sell one of the cars....

That really depends. If I leave for class at 5:00, I'm usually there by 6:15. If I oversleep and leave at 5:15, I get there around 7. If I leave at 5:30, I get to class around 8. :(

The ride back is different. Assuming absolutely no traffic, about 30 minutes. But it usually takes anywhere between 40 minutes and 2 1/2 hours.

It usually takes about 10-15 minutes to get to work each day, 20 minutes if traffic's bad. Returning home though, it usually takes about 30 minutes due to rush hour traffic.

I usually take the train to work, it's a 5 minute drive to the station, 40 minute ride and a 10 minute walk. It's actually faster then driving in rush hour and I save parking cost and I get to sleep in the train. Toronto traffic.

Half an hour these days, but it used to be almost 3 hours in the morning when I lived at my ex-wife's place.

about 15 minute walk to the train station, 20 minute train ride into town, 30 minutes on the tram, about the same back.

Just out of interest, your start point and end points seem to be about 1 minute from a direct rail route, but you drive?

I live in Renfrew which doesn't have a train station and I've been let down by the bus too many times so I drive the 10 minutes to my work (along the M8) but looking to switch onto two wheels (pedal and motor).

Yes, I live a few minutes from the Metrolink (tram). I used to take it to work every day but over the last 2 years it has gotten more unreliable, busier and more expensive. I'd be lucky if it was on time in the morning, and if it was there would be no chance of getting a seat. In the summer it is really uncomfortable with that many people on. I find it cheaper and more comfortable to drive but it does add 15 mins to my journey (it would be quicker than the tram if there was no traffic). I'd like to still be able to take public transport, but it's just not a pleasant experience.

Before the first of the year, it took me about 50 minutes to get to or from work. But since they "flipped" the highway (they are doing major highway reconstruction here, in two parts), it now only takes me 30 minutes. When they are all finished (at the end of the year), it will take me about 20.

That is, if I still have that job.

26 miles one way... 30 minutes to one hour (So I chose 45 to 1.5)

However I never touch an interstate :p 35, 45, and some 55, speed roads... but I drive a Miata whose top is not up unless the sky is leaking.

This is from Dallas, Georgia to over by Windy Hill and 75.
