how long should a 2TB drive take to zero byte erase? it is a WD Element 2TB

Standard zero-out instead of a 7-pass or 35-pass? Probably in the range of a couple hours. Could be quicker, but wouldn't expect that.

external USB? i think it'd be limited by the USB bus speed and dependent of the speed of the drive. along time

edit:i did a search for read/write speeds of your drive but came up empty.... sorry 🙁

How fast is your disk? At 80 MB/sec it could take about 7 hours to do 2 TB
(! GB = 1024 MB and 1 TB = 1024 GB so 2 TB = 2.1 million MB)
