Hello guys. Iphone 4 with Ios 7 here :( .
I want to do a little upgrade and i am thinking buying an iphone 5S. I am just wondering how much it will last ? My girlfriend has an Iphone 5c with ios 9 and from what I saw the performance is very good IMO.

My iphone 4 moves like crap with ios 7 installed and I am just wondering how many years can the 5s last until it will moves like an old man :( ? Also I saw the SE ( i ****** love it !) but it's to expensive for what i want (i am not a phone enthusiast) .Iphone 6 has the same performance as the 5s maybe with 15% better but how long an iPhone can last?

Any Iphone 5s users here ? Are you still happy with your 5s ? :D

Thanks !

That's a bit of a subjective question, as everyone may have different opinions about when a phone is no longer useful. Some will say that the 5s is already "obsolete". All I can say is that I gave my mom my 5s when I got a 6 a couple of years ago and I still mess around on it when my mom needs help with something (which is frequently). I keep it up to date with the latest OS, and as far as I can tell it's still running smoothly.

To answer your question, the 5s is a very capable phone. My wife and I both have one with the latest version of IOS software installed, and performance is very good. My only complaint at all is we have 16G phones and I wish we had at least 32G or more of memory, but otherwise they are just fine. I love the 5s build and size of phone. Our next upgrade will be SE phones with more memory, but we are by no means in any hurry to make the upgrade.

With iPhones/iPads it´s seems like the hardware can last for quite some time if you just avoid the updates..

Im still on the 5c and that´s basically a 4 year old phone, performance is still "ok".
(If I had just stayed away from iOS7 on my 4s then I might still be on that one..)

I think that if you stay on iOS10 with the 5s you might be good for a few years more.
I don´t think I will update my 5c from iOS9 unless reviews says iOS10 is faster.

An iPhone 5 (not 5s) works perfectly fine on iOS 9.3.3. No real lags. An iPhone 4S does not. Seeing that the 5S is basically 2X faster than the 5, it'll be fine.
iPhone 6 is plenty fast on iOS 9.3.3.

The 5s is still a great phone, but it's hard to say how future software updates will affect it. You mentioned you like the SE, I have the SE and I feel it's worth holding out for if you want one. It's powerful and will be for years to come.

The iPhone 5s can still manage through a couple of years until it goes down in performance. And you can safely buy one today and it may not disappiont you as your iPhone 4.i am saying this because i have one from launch day and it's still serving me well.

I just bought the 5s two days ago and updated it to 9.3.3 and I've been very impressed with it, it's very smooth and responsive and the battery life so far is very impressive. I owned an se for a couple of months before going to android and for my use I can't tell a great deal of difference apart from camera quality. My use is just basic browsing, messaging and a bit of YouTube, I don't do gaming. I'd recommend giving it a go.

Considering iOS10 will probably be the last iOS for iPhone 5, the 5S will probably see its last days in a year or two. 5S only have 1GB RAM, which can be the bottleneck moving forward to the world of 64bit. It will probably still be fairly smooth (my iPhone5 still runs iOS9 fairly decent), but there will be small quirks due to RAM and age. It also lacks Battery life should also be a consideration since buying a 5S today, unless it is brand new from Apple, will probably have a battery life that is 80% of its original capacity.

Buying an almost 3-year-old smartphone, you should have realistic expectation. Using it for 1 year or so should be fine. If you don't have to have iPhone, $200 Android phones are very good nowadays.
I would avoid iPhone 6 due to material durability and GPU performance (due to increased resolution, especially the 6 Plus). The SE is arguably the best iPhone on budget if you can stretch yours.

I've had an iPhone 5s since its' launch, and it works really good even with iOS 10 beta installed.

iPhone 5s had the slogan "thinking forward" & was the first 64-bit processor-equiped iPhone. I think it'll last at least 2 more iOS updates without an issue and when the day comes that no longer an iOS update will be available for it, it'll most likely be smooth :)

I use mine on straight talk wireless and brand new was $150. Pretty good price. After one year of service they will unlock it.

Wait the iphone 7 comes out, iphone se price drops. Buy the SE. The iphone 5s will be discountinued soon.

Why would the SE's price drop?

Waste of money buying a 5s in my eyes if you're going to use it as a primary phone better of buying something more future proof like the SE.

The OP said off the bat that the SE is too pricey, and he's not a power user or anything. The 5s should probably be okay for at least a couple of years. He's coming from a 4.

I am still on my iPhone 4S with iOS7, and quite happy with it. It will continue to rock my world until it dies a horrible death by fire or something.

If you don't update to the newest iOS with a 5S, then it will also continue to rock YOUR world forevah!
