How long do you guys think it'll be till Appleremoves the crown from the AW? I think I t'd be nice to see it gone by the third edition and replaced with touchpad technology on the left and right sides. The physical button can be moved to the top or bottom.

The crown was Apples glory when the watch was announced.
I don't see it leaving unless they cancel the watch entirely

Crowns have been on watches for a century. It is very functionally for the size/space/ergonomics of a watch. I suspect it will be there for generations.

That's like saying the home button was Apple's glory when the iPhone was announced and you don't see it leaving unless they cancel the iPhone entirely. Apple is actually rumored to ditch the home button in the 2017 iPhone.

Never say never. Who knows, the AW may morph into an entirely different form factor in which the crown as we know it may no longer be of use. It won't be anytime soon though.

crown is king. Rotating bezel would be large and clunky. the crown is apple's crowing achievement for the watch... :)

I want a round watch with a rotating bezel instead of the crown.

Do you have a round iPhone? Round TV? Round laptop?

No thanks! I have tried to read messages or email on my brother's LG Urbane...horrible! Round sucks when data is being presented! Lots of dead space...and so little room to see. Solution of round smartwatches? Make them big as hell to try and fit same amount of data.

As for crown, no way! I love spinning it to go to the end of an email or go up several text messages! Touchscreen for those things sucks. With round spin bezel, if you spin and don't reset your fingers, you will block part of the screen. Spinning of crown on Apple Watch is out of the way of the display.

Apple got the crown right.

I hope not but I'd like it centered.

I think OP might be a reappearing (banned) troll. I remember their profile pic from last year during the Series 0 launch but their profile was just created back this April.

OP was trolling another thread as well suggesting users give away their old phones and watches to poor people like Walmart employees.

(No disrespect meant)

On a serious side, I am amazed at how strongly people seem to be entrenched in the way things have been. It is just like anchoring to a belief that a mouse should only have one button. I don't really care for the crown, and I hope someone creatively figures out another way. And, I hope they do not constrain themselves.

Entrenched is one thing...changing something that works perfectly fine just for the sake of changing is not so good.

Removing 3.5mm from iPhone is a good idea because of space constraints and elimination of movable HOME button. That is not the same as removing crown on Apple Watch.

Saying you give away your old phones to your less well off friends is trolling?

I hope Apple continues to evolve the watch UI. It took them forever to break free from the one-button mouse.

At its essence, it is the exact same user interface that BMW introduced in 1994 in its in-car navigation systems: a rotating push knob. BMW has done like 4 iterations on that concept already, and the auto industry has mostly copied them. But with a watch, it just seems like there is better out there that is yet to be discovered.

Actually it is a LONG history of horrible patronizing and condescending posts, many of which have been removed by the mods. That is one of the mildest. Just click on the profile and you can see the pattern.

That's not a reason to keep it. It's certainly functional, but it's also prone to stuff getting stuck in it, etc. Any physical buttons are a weak link, at the end of the day.

iPhone:The Home button Would have gone but it was hard enough to add touch 3D with out loosing the fingerprint reader.
2017.....Maybe

Watch: The Crown, Crystal, Band, Leather, Steel, Complications, ground it as as watch.

Form is Art, Function is just Technology. rhj

I'm thinking we will see some pretty big changes in the next Apple Watch (Series 3???). Smart Watches in general are kind of in a weird place in the technology world since they don't drastically benefit your life in any major way and therefore, you can easily live without them. In order to improve sales, it seems like the Apple Watch is straddling the fence between being a smart watch and being a fitness accessory. Just look at the difference between the original Apple Watch reveal (very focused on smart functions) and the Apple Watch Series 2 reveal (very fitness focused).

Since there seems to be much higher demand for fitness accessories than smart watches, the Apple Watch will probably continue to lean towards being a fitness accessory. In doing so, I definitely think it will see some major design changes which might include either removing or redesigning the digital crown. If Apple can redesign the iconic home button, then there is no reason they can't do the same for the Apple Watch crown.

I can't wait to get my new Series 1 tomorrow but at the same time, I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what Apple does with the next generation.
