I'm at work right now, charging my phone for the first time. How long does this process take? My old phone (an SE w810i) would be charged in a couple hours, but the iPhone is taking forever. I've had it plugged into the dock for 5 hours now and it's still not full. Usually devices will quick charge 80% of the way in an hour, and then it slows down. That hasn't been my experience with the iPhone.

Could this be because the dock is plugged into my monitor (which then goes into the computer) and not directly into the computer? Plugging directly into the phone (and not using the dock) wouldn't make a difference, would it?

To charge the iPhone it needs a powered USB port.Your monitor's USB port probably isn't powered.

Mine seems to fully charge from 1/4 charge in about 2 hours. Pretty quick if you ask me. Although in a couple of years, with Toshiba's new technology, charging a battery will take mere seconds. Even better, PowerCast will make charging iPods and the iPhone a wireless afair before the decade is over. There's actually a story about wireless power in Mac|Life's July 07 issue. Pretty cool!
