I will be getting a 128GB iPhone 6S and will restore it from a 32GB iPhone 5 (mostly full, only have 1 GB of free space left). Will probably restore from an iTunes backup.

I wanted to know approx how long would it take? I only have maybe 2 hours to do it between when I get it and when I have to leave for the airport, would that be enough time?

It doesn't restore your music and videos (if you manage that stuff manually). Will likely take an hour via iTunes, will take 6 hours from iCloud. True story.

Through iCloud - to get basic function back, about 30 minutes. A full restore up to 6-8 hours depending on how many photos/videos you have.

Through iTunes - 15/20 minutes, full restore of the phone.

I used to do iCloud only but after not getting all my photos while on the iOS 9 beta, I reverted back to iTunes and it's so much faster and easier. I use iCloud as a fall back backup option.

Use iTunes. Backup your phone and make sure it's an ENCRYPTED backup or you will lose your health/password data. You also won't have to setup email/bank passwords again either as long as it's ENCRYPTED.

I've always used iCloud restore...but its taken me as long as 1-2 days before to fully restore a 32GB phone! Since I'm short on time this time, thought I'd give iTunes a shot. I guess if it doesn't work fully, I could always wipe it and do an iCloud restore again.

I am concerned about the music not restoring. I don't sync anything to iTunes, I buy alot of songs from iTunes on my phone, and I never sync it to iTunes on my laptop or used iTunes to manage my music library. Will the music on my old phone be restored on my new phone?

If you transfer purchases - yes. Do this before you backup.

Not sure that is necessary. If you have bought everything through iTunes, your purchases will always be available for download. However, transferring your purchases to your PC will speed things up immensely.

Ok, reporting back. Restoring via iTunes was relatively a breeze!

But yes, all my playlists and songs are gone! And yes, I did transfer purchases before I backed up to iTunes. Not a big deal as I will just redownload, but very annoying.
