This whole Intel move has really screwed up my buying of a Mac.

Does anyone know when we can expect to see 2nd gen Intel Powerbooks for sale? I don’t want to buy a 1st gen and get stuck with old and outdated tech when the 2nd gen comes out. Usually a 1st gen machine isn’t as advanced as a 2nd and I am afraid I will be missing out on some hardware that would make my machine almost useless forcing me to shell out a couple more grand just to upgrade to a machine that is useable in day to day life.

>>>Personally...i too am waiting for 2nd gen...conroe/merom based machines (powerbook)..and here's some VERY good news:

Basically, Intel is now expected to deliver conroe by mid-summer 2006...quite a bit before earlier predictions. This is the chip to buy...64bit, etc, etc. This chip has the *potential* to put Intel back in competition with AMD's X2, etc. Unless you simply must buy now...this puppy is worth the wait!

peace

Is conroe dual core?

So can we expect to see quad Powermacs?

Here is what really bothers me about this.

I have the latest revision 17inch powerbook, and i cannot even host an ichat multiple video session. what is the deal with that. I bought a pro machine, and cannot even run an iapp. this really woirries me more about the new intel switch. i can see things being limited to g5/intel very soon.

That's probably because your computer is too slow, according to the minimum requirements: http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/ichat/

Minimum Requirements for iChat AV said:
4-person Video conference:
To initiate/host: Dual 1GHz G4, any G5; 384Kbps Internet connection (up/down)

To Participate: 1GHz G4, dual 800 MHz G4 or any G5; 100Kbps Internet connection (up/down)

Your 17" PB doesn't have two 1GHz G4 processors, does it?

Oh nooooo! Don't ever buy a 2nd gen! It will be old, dated and useless piece of hardware once the 3rd gen comes out!:D

Saying Macs are godly is like saying the 2nd fattest girl in class is thin.

Where did they say Macs are godly in their post?

Well if you wait for the 2nd Intel PB, you might as well wait for the 3rd. And if you're gonna wait for the 3rd revision, it's probably a safe bet to hold out for the 4th.

I'm tired of these threads. Just go buy a PPC PowerBook.

I don't see it, or why you attacked GimmeSlack12, besides to enlighten them with your anti PowerPC Powerbook propaganda.

i understand my processor is not fast enough

do you think somhow i missed that fact?
im angry that i have the newest top of the line verson of the laptio and cannot run an iapp, theere is no way around this for me, no laptop apple makes can. its bull

There's a lot of overhead on doing a video conference.. not something I would ever have thought of using a laptop to handle. Maybe it's just me, but I don't equate a laptop with anything "pro", as typically a low-level desktop can run rings around it.

>>I don't think it's anti PowerPC Powerbook propaganda. How is it propaganda to point out well known problems with the latest rev of Powerbooks? If I were a potential buyer, *I* would appreciate such information. Unlike most on this site, Generik simply doesn't drink Apple's Cult Mentality inducing koolaid.....
