Just curious how long you waited before your upgrade M4 Pro order stayed in "processing". I ordered mine (48GB RAM, 10GbE upgrades) on 29 November and on 8 December, it's still "processing", with an estimated delivery date of 13-18 December. Given the shipping times (at least 7 days?) it looks likely to be towards the end of this range, but the holiday parcel traffic may slow things down.
From Australia and I ordered close to your date and it arrived from China to Sydney in about 4 days and took another 2 days to clear Sydney and Brisbane airports/customs and day 7 was delivered :)

  • Macbook Pro Black
  • M4 Pro 14C/20 GPU
  • 48GB ram
  • 1TB Storage
Not sure about other countries but a lot of folks on local Australian forums say for custom builds while advertised ~13 days delivery, most arrived in ~7 days.

edit: just noticed this is in Mac Mini forum! Ah I think probably more demand for Mac Minis this time round that Macbook Pros, so could be due to demand that Mac Mini delays for custom builds?

So all that weeping, wailing, and gnashing of teeth was for naught, eh? I actually SHIPPED before the promised delivery window and will likely arrive in the next day or two.

Seriously though, if you are in the US you should be able to correlate the shipping updates you get from UPS with the flight data you can retrieve on flight aware.com for UPS 99. AAPL products ship from China to Incheon (Seoul) S. Korea and then on to the US via UPS 99, which lands in Anchorage AK (airport identifier ANC) and continues on (still as UPS 99) to UPS hub in Louisville (airport identifier SDF). From there, if you can figure out what UPS uses as its local airport, you can continue following it by entering flights from SDF to that airport (which, in my case, is Manchester NH (MHT). How do I know all this? Well, I must admit that I am no more patient than you are when it comes to following the progress of a new AAPL goodie I'm expecting. 🤪

Have fun tracking your new Mac!

If it ain't silent, it is going back. I hope it is silent for my use! (very light use)

My M4 Mini was shipped late on Dec. 11, and has been in Chek Lap Kok, Hong Kong with a "The delivery date will be provided as soon as possible" message on the UPS tracking for the past 3 days. 🧐

Where are you located?

Canada. I wouldn't be surprised if our Canada Post strike is slowing things down considerably for UPS (and other couriers) at this time of year. Still, it seems a bit strange that the computer has been sitting in Hong Kong for several days without (apparent) movement.
That it does. Two other thoughts are weather (but I haven’t heard of major weather issues in that part of the world) and customs delay. I'm vaguely recalling some sort of UPS (?FedEx) delay in delivery of my AirPods Max four years ago that I think might have been weather-related.

It's possible that it's already entered the US and a scan got missed. In which case it'll probably just show up in Kentucky or St Louis at some point.

The strike is causing some issues, but the issues are at this end, not in Hong Kong or the US. You might get a UPS "EXCEPTION" message and it'll be delayed a day or two instead of arriving on the date you expect it.

True.

And then, shortly after I posted, the status changed to delivery on the 17th and the package has arrived in Anchorage. 😎

Mine will be here the 19th. We'll see then if it is actually quiet enough for me. The reports are all over the map.

Just an FYI, you can use TG Pro or something similar to adjust the fan curve if the default is not to your liking.

Seems like you are doing everything you can to set yourself up for disappointment and return of the mini. Given that you feel the noise is "all over the map", I'm surprised you even ordered it in the first place. What is your acceptable noise level? I run 3 virtual Parallels machines and have Photoshop open at the same time.

It is 50/50. I try to have no expectations. Sometimes I return things, most times I do not. Noise is a VERY subjective measurement.

From most reviews, the M4 at high fan rpm speeds is more noisy than previous models. Obviously, it's still subjective and varies from person to person.
