If you need a Mac now, get one now. If you don't, don't.

I'm running a 2019 16" MacBook. I upgrade every 2-3 years, which will put me in at least the 2nd generation ARM Mac before I start thinking about upgrades again. I'll let others deal with the 1st generation issues as Apple makes the shift.

I think that the problem could be not the support of Apple OS, but instead support of third party software for both Intel and ARM Macs. What do you think about it?

Computers are tools, and if you need a better tool to do your job then get the better tool. Technology always marches forward and there will be better tools in the future. In general I get 5-7 years as a daily driver/work machine, then another 5-7 years as the basement file server/recording computer. I don’t need a supported OS or new software to do many things so an older machine is fine. After 10-15 years in service I usually sell on Craigslist for peanuts. The only Mac that I’ve had that completely die was my first Apple IIcx, which fried after a lightning strike some time around the late 1990s.

As we see with macOS Monterey, Apple will keep updating Intel Macs for a a few years but won't give them newer features. The newer features will be exclusive to ARM Macs. I think 2022-2023 will be the end of new MacOS releases for Intel Macs and then they will have security updates through 2025-2026. I believe Apple wants to get away from Intel as soon as they can. And as with the PowerPC-Intel transition. They will want to eventually get rid of Rosetta and optimize macOS for only Apple Processors.

I reckon Apple will continue to support these until around 2025.
(that's just a guess on my part)

i believe all the new features in osx will be soon AS only…intel will get only major security updates. So 2022 game over imo

Reminder that Apple is still actively selling brand new Intel computers, right now. And not just as a lifeline for a handful of saps who still want Bootcamp—if you need a high-end Mac for power-hungry work, Intel is your only option right now.
