Hello everyone!

I just sold my iphone 5s to get the iphone 6.
I did not upgrade to iphone 6s since now iphone 6 is cheaper.

I am curious how long will iphone 6 will be supported from apple (will it last to iOS 11 or 12?)
Please let me know!

I'd say odds are quite good that iOS 12 will be made available for it. The 4S got iOS 9 support, if that's any indication.

5-6 Years. The iPhone 4S is the first iPhone to support five major versions of iOS: iOS 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9. I would assume for the 6 it would last for a decade

Next ios will probably be the last one ip6 will run as smooth as it is today, but 11 will be supported too. By supported, you won't have apronlem if you're not a heavy user for ~3 years now on.

I left my crystal ball back at work. Otherwise, I'd answer.
Ugh, people like you still exist?

I think ios9 support is because of ios9 not 4s, it was an optimization update afterall,

Possibly. But iOS9 has a lot in it beyond just being optimizations.

The iPhone 4 only made it to iOS 7. The 4s got 8 and 9 because the model was Apple's Golden Child for so long.

OP, the iPhone 5 runs iOS 9 and that's a 2012 model. It's expected to run iOS 10.

Your 6 will be fine.

I think some people in this thread are a little too optimistic about how long it will be supported. It has been a little under 4 years since the 4S was released, which was a powerful phone for its time. I remember saying at the time it would probably be supported for longer than any previous iPhones.

Now it runs very slow and can barely multitask (RAM limitations I bet, ring a bell for the iPhone 6 anyone?). I try to play a game on the phone and I can forget about being able to take a phone call. Oh and forget playing Apple Music while some apps are open.
So your iPhone 6 may still be supported in 4-5 years, but don't expect nearly the same experience you have today. I expect the 6+ to be discontinued much sooner, by next year at the latest. Apple seems to like slowing devices down after a couple years and you'll probably want a new one. Your 1 GB of RAM is gonna limit you more and more each year.

Ugh, why necro-post?

As to the original question, I imagine the 6 will be cut off this September, and probably high time as well

It's about time. iOS 12 was very economical in the way of new features to increase stability and support. The A12 has a truckload of untapped potential (the iPad even more so).

iPhone 5S and 6 users should be happy that they got 5 years of support and have their perfectly working phone on iOS 12 for years to come or upgrade. We're getting to a point that support for old phones is hampering innovation for the new ones.

There is a lot of utility in looking back, hence the value of the discipline of history. My 6 is still going strong. Interesting to compare thinking then with how it turned out.
