Absolutely.

I can see how Apple is expecting to find customers in China or oil monarchies in the middle east. But I am not sure about Western countries. But then, there are a probably enough rich people who want to show off their wealth and have an iPhone in China for Apple to sell quite a few :)

Good point about the Chinese/Asian market. But, I will come back and say that the "new money" in Asia buys things that are desirable in the Western world. They want the things Westerners aspire to own. I just don't ever see the Edition watch being an aspirational item/brand over here. It's Apple. Everyone owns something Apple. Nothing prestigious or exclusive about it anymore. And I've not found one fellow watch enthusiast, in person or on any of the watch forums I frequent, that does anything other than laugh at Apple for this "Edition" nonsense.

In one word :) : Tuhao!

Longer version: I agree there are now sophisticated rich people in China who buy things because they see value or beauty in them and fully understand what they are buying. These people are not just buying a status symbol and also know what their rich Western counterpart are or aren't buying. But there are still a lot of nouveaux riches who have no clue and will buy whatever is shiny or they think rich Westerners aspire to own.

Interesting. Good read there on something I wasn't aware of.

I don't imagine much of an aesthetic difference when Gen 2 is announced 1.5 years from now.

1.1 mm thinner. 1 more hour of battery life.

Maybe I didn't pick the right word. What I meant by cool is that it still is something you want to use and you don't feel desperate next to someone who owns the latest generation (I think most people in this site would not want to be using a 5 years old iPhone).

And that was my other argument: if money is no object, are you going to wear on your wrist something that is made in China (nothing against China but Swiss made sounds nicer to most people) and has the exact same design as what everybody else is wearing aside from the material.

Absolutely! I wear what I want... no matter how many people have it and are wearing it. You can customize it enough to make it "yours". I'm getting it for what it can do for me not what having it can do for people's perception of me.
