I've had my iPhone 7 for just over 13 months now and my 3rd headphone adapter is giving out. I think it's because of the way the lightning part bends while it's in my jeans or jacket pockets. I'm not mad just frustrated that Amazon doesn't seem to sell them any more.

On the plus side my IEM headphones used to give out for the same reason when I had the headphone jack on the 5 and 6 every couple of months. Since I've had the 7 my headphones haven't had to be replaced.

How many have you guys gone through?

Im surprised people use wired headphones. Such a hassle to get tangled.

Sure for home setup, but walking around? Wireless is much less of a hassle.

The adapter that came with my 8+ was defective right out of the box. Got it replaced 3 days later. The replacement has worked fine so far, but it's only a couple of weeks old.

It may blow your mind to learn that the majority of people still used wired headphones, even a year after Apple had the "courage" to get rid of the headphone jack.

Zero!

Also, there are lots of fake Apple accessories on Amazon- even via Prime. I wouldn't trust adapters from there to be genuine, and knockoff cords tend to fail quickly in general.

Im more concerned with the fact that I've gone through at least 10000 EXPENSIVE lightning cables. Apple and third party both, doesn't matter, they seem to be crap. Thank god for wireless.

I use AirPods but i also have 24/96 Dragon lightnings headphone adapter that sounds phenomenal when playing FLAC from the Onkyo HD player on iPhone.

Airpods FTW!! :p
I'm still dubious, sounds like they work pretty well but the lack of a physical buttons and nothing tethering them together (I can see 'oops lost one' as being an issue) has prevented me so far. I know it's Apple's way of moving us forward, just not quite ready for that one yet.

One of my friends' lightning to 3.5mm headphone jack was malfunctioning. Since I will never used mine, I just gave away my adapter to him. :D

I had doubts also, but they seemed to hold up pretty well... I do interval running (spring, jog, repeat) on occasion and even when I'm dripping buckets of sweat they stay in...

Sometimes I sleep with them, and once in a while one falls out, but other than that they are pretty decent.. for serious music listening I am tethered using electrostatic IEMS...

Cool, good to know. Do they have a feature to find one (audibly) if lost?

I'm no audiophile, but I'm pretty sure wired headphones provide a much better sound quality. Also, some headphones are extremely expensive (some are over $1,000 even) and some people who've spent a bunch of money on headphones don't want the purchase to become absolutely useless.

It depends.

Which device has the better DAC. Studio monitors canNot be fully driven by mobile chipset.

If you are spending that kind of money and have that kind of enthusiasm for headphones and audio... you dont want to be handicapped by the iphones dinky DAC and lowly amplified output.

Your headphones will get the real uncompressed ALAC or aac file sent via Bluetooth and a $1000 quality DAC in headphones closer to the destination.

I use mine primarily for working out or listening casually. Otherwise i use the $3k electrostatic (with external DAC) for more involved headphone listening.

To answer the other question, I think you can use find my iPhone app to locate buds?? I never tried it though.

None, and I even lost the first one. I use Bluetooth and have two different pairs, one is the Airpods. The wires always travel with me in case of a long trip and my batteries happen to die. otherwise never bother with wired headset.

Finally... This is why I didn't care when they took the headphone jack away...
Cause I never use my headphone jack to listen to music anyway(nor do I use bluetooth for music except in the car...)

I also use Onkyo HD with a separate DAC connected via the lightning port listening to DSD(also FLAC, but DSD sounds way better on my DAC) files on my Shure se846 IEMs. The IEMs alone cost more than the iPhone(well, about the same now...)

Bluetooth just isn't good enough for serious listening, but I am also a weirdo... I'm the only person I know that won't use bluetooth audio when exercising or skiing. If music isn't played at high quality, it is just noise... I'd rather hear the world around me.

Adam1080,
What amp/dac are you using with your SE846? I am looking at getting these IEM soon.

I resisted for a long time. I had a different brand of wireless earbuds that were wired together. When I lost those (found them a week later) I bit the bullet and got the airpods. Best thing(s) ever! The only weakness (strength?) is they allow a significant amount of ambient noise in. This is good while running, or any time it is important to be aware of your environment. Not so good on an airplane.

Yes, there is a function through "find my iPhone" to locate lost airpods. It will show their location on maps or play an audible signal from the lost airpod(s). However, they need to be within range of your phone or other device they connect to. If not, their last known location will be shown. This will work for each airpod independently.

Can't recommend them enough!

Could not recommend the iFi micro iDSD black label enough...

For the money, simply nothing compares. Read any review...

It’s a little bulky, but the options and sound with the SEs are amazing. DSD files sound so good it’s hard to describe. You just need to listen.
I’ve flown about 300,000 miles with mine(non-black label).

I’m also looking at getting the Oppo HA-2SE.
It’s a smaller form factor that still does DSD 256 with iPhone compatibility. I can’t vouch for it with the SE846s, and am a little worried because the sound floor on the previous gen was too loud and caused hiss with the highly sensitive Shures.

I still have my original that came with my iPhone 7, I have two others just for my own convenience but I've never had one fail on me yet. I keep one in the car, one in my office and one in my briefcase so I am prepared if need be lol
