How the heck do you people use so many apps? LOL I find a lot of them already do the same thing that pre-installed apps do and wouldnt need the extras. I only keep what I really need, but I hate clutter.
Currently have 7 installed, 2 of which are games. Might wind up with a few more as need arises, but could never see getting up to 20-30 apps!

That's a lie...... How is that possible if the phone cannot run background programs......

I wonder where the apps go. They either have to go into RAM or into the mass storage area (flash memory?). If they go into RAM I would imagine that there could be a performance hit (even though the app is not running anywhere).

I do know that my 2G iphone seems to run alot slower and I only downloaded two apps. When I first upgraded to the new firmware the iphone seemed to run faster but not anymore.

Anyone know more about the apps as to what effect they have on performance?

The apps go into your flash storage, same place as your music, photos, emails, etc.. They don't run in the background, so they wouldn't affect your RAM when you exit out of them. Native apps (ie, Safari) should be quit by holding down the home button for about 5 seconds. It will bring you back out to the home screen and should free up any ram that was being used by that app.

The user interface is slow because 2.0 is really buggy right now. I'm sure an update is coming right around the corner.
