As alternate devices to my Mac laptops, I always buy 16GB WiFi tablets. For me that's ideal since I don't load it with music or movies. The robust network I have is the central repository for all my files. It's a great way to make owning several laptops tablets & smartphones easy & constantly in sync.

Tethering to my iPhone 5 so it's not needed and at home/indoors it's on wifi.

This. Why would I pay an extra 130 bucks upfront and then 10 bucks a month to use my same pool of data? I'd assume I could use the iPad on its own plan but that's even more ridiculous.

For the record, if didn't have an LTE iPhone with tethering, I would more than likely get one of the cellular versions.

I bought the 16gb wifi iPad mini. It's for my 6 year old DD who will only be using it at our house or if we go to my parent's house.

16GB wifi here as well.

I currently have a 32GB iPad ( which I'm keeping for home use) and that still has 17-18GB free.

I have a personal iphone 5 with an unlimited plan that allows tethering, I also have a work Galaxy S2 with a 2GB data plan which allows tethering. I also have wifi at home and at work, and a car charger for both if I need to recharge through the day.

A cellular model would be a total waste of money.

LTE. It's the Holidays and I might have to go with 32GB though I want 64GB.

Tethering became a PITA and I don't have to worry about draining my Super Phone's battery.

One crowd I haven't really seen represented yet is the one that has a ATT grandfathered unlimited data plan on their iPhone. No possible way to tether with that.

I got a LTE mini to replace a LTE iPad 3 simply because my job has me out in the field, and the field is construction sites. No wifi around. I need access to email, data rich apps all on a lager screen than just the iPhone while also not being as intrusive as the iPad 3 as I have to hold it in my hands most the time. This is where I will say the iPad 3 is heavy and does cause strains while holding for up to hours at a time.

The mini will be easier to hold/store. Is lighter and will do everything else I need that the iPad 3 could too.

I see the arguments for people that work in a office, or are at places that have wifi all the time. That is just not the case for every line of work. Having access to data on the go on a tablet is almost a must for me.

exactly...amazing so many people here think the LTE is stupid, strictly based on their limited view. There are many of us that don't fit the norm here and need LTE.....or just not opt to teather.

The 16GB (16,000 MB) capacity is plenty so long as you aren't planning on saving a lot of music, videos, or games on your iPad. Few iPad apps, aside from games and some navigation programs, require more than a few hundred megabytes and most require less than 40MB. My 16GB iPad has more than 100 apps, a dozen games, a GPS navigation app with maps for the entire US, several gigabytes of music, and it still has about 5GB available.

Yeah as long as you're not trying to use your iPad for what it was intended to be used for, you'll be fine with 16gb, lol.

I went with a 16GB Mini and 64GB iPad. This combo should work well for me.

Plus I have mobile hotspot on my iPhone 5, so LTE whenever I need it.

This recent storm convinced me that I should go with the 64 GB WiFi LTE if/when I buy an iPad Mini. I've already got the iPad 2 and the iPad 3 and an iPhone 5......I'm also still on the grandfathered AT&T data plan for the iPhone. As it turned out I didn't need to do this after all, but if my power had been out for several days I would have had the option of using all three devices utilizing 3G/LTE and that would have gotten me online during the time the power was out. When one device ran out of juice there were the others..... My power was only out for a short time so as it happened I only needed to use one device for a little while to check in on my forums, email, the news, etc.

I had already figured that the LTE would only make sense on the iPad Mini anyway because if that is the device I'm carrying out-and-about, this is when I am most likely to run into situations where there is no WiFi available. Certainly that has happened in the past with both the iPad 2 and the iPad 3 and I was glad to have that cellular data plan up and running.

The 64 GB storage I'm still weighing and might wind up going with the 32 GB iPad Mini instead, especially since it is the device that would be going out-and-about with me and I wouldn't necessarily be spending a lot of time listening to my music on there or watching movies. If I want to do that I can do it on either of the two larger iPads.

LTE, though -- that's a no-brainer as far as I am concerned.
