If it shows 100% charged at the top menu bar why doesn't it show fully charged below? (10 month old 13")

Charge Information:
Charge Remaining (mAh): 5837
Fully Charged: No
Charging: No
Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 6093
Health Information:
Cycle Count: 159
Condition: Normal
Battery Installed: Yes

That system report data you posted there is accurate (5837/6093=~.95) and the OS fudges the number in that graphic in the menu bar to show 100%. The numbers you showed in system report are the true charge numbers though.

I assume Apple does this so we don't freak out when the percent indicator floats up and down while on AC power.

You can see the same thing here with mine. The real reading is ~98% while the graphic shows 100%. Coconut battery uses these same accurate numbers and not the fudged %.

Early 2011 15" - 815 cycles.

It seems like lower cycle number the better, judging from the posts in this thread. Is there some sort of cap where the thing starts to die rather quickly?

According to Apple here it is "...designed to deliver up to 1000 full charge and discharge cycles before it reaches 80 percent of its original capacity."

Your battery is designed to retain 80% of its original capacity for up to 1000 cycles. Be aware that even when a battery health drops below 80%, it doesn't mean it's not still usable. You can continue to use a battery until it no longer holds sufficient charge to meet your needs, or until it displays other problems, such as swelling.

Gotcha, thanks. I routinely use my MBP hooked to my HDTV for watching movies, during which time, I just leave it charging - sometimes for hours. I always hear so much noise about best battery practices that I kind of just do whatever's easiest in a given situation.

It's perfectly fine to use your MBP while it's plugged in. It will not continue charging after your battery is full, so it cannot overcharge.

1 year and a couple of months on 258 cycles and 93% health, late 2013 15" rMBP 512/16. Spends all day at work plugged into the wall power, and run on battery in the evening/morning.

Base model mid 2010 15" MBP;

51 months old, 1065 cycles, 84% capacity.

Anticipating to use it for 18+ more months. *fingers crossed

p.s.: Swapped the optical drive with a SSD at 28 month mark. Then did the fusion drive hack from terminal installing a fresh OS X. This increased the life of the laptop drastically.

2013 MBA purchased in October has 118. With previous models I always carried the power brick, as 9 times out of 10 it wouldn't last the day. Don't think it's left the house more than a couple of occasions with this one, as I think it's only ran out of juice once at that was right at the end of a long day.

If Apple can add a IPS monitor without impacting on the form factor or battery life they really will create the perfect laptop computer!

I have a late 2012 rMBP and to be honest, I don't check.

Perhaps when I get home from work tonight, I'll check it out but truth be told, I don't monitor the cycles, its not something I choose to obsess over

Charge cycles

I have a late-2013 macbook pro, bought March this year, it has 101 cycles on it already

Mid-2012 15-inch rMBP, owned 17 months, 3 charge cycles. Not kidding.
Late-2013 15-inch rMBP, owned 6 months, 5 charge cycles. Not kidding, again.

They're moved between home, work, and field offices.
