I would still be with my iPhone 4 if my wife hadn't upgraded her 4S to the 5 and passed the 4S to me. I'm not the kind of person that always has to have the latest & greatest.

Was planning to upgrade every two, ie. 4 to 5. But I'm outta money and the 5 doesn't seem like a good investment to me, so I shall wait for the 5S ;)

tldr:
3 Generations

Got Verizon iPhone 4 in 2011 and so I might upgrade this year or wait for the iPhone 6. Not really in a rush because it still works great.

On the other hand, my iPad 1 is kinda getting slow. Hopefully iPad Mini with retina comes out. Also iPad 5 rumors sound good. Just going to have to wait and see which is better.

I buy the new model at each refresh. I enjoy the first hand experience & forming my own opinion.

If I don't care for it, in a matter of months I can dump it for the next new model.

I bought a 4S (first one available from my operator) on release day and didn't buy a 5. I suspect that I'll probably be ready to upgrade by the time the 5S rolls around, but it's hard to say; iOS 7 may end up breathing new life into my 4S.

One thing's for sure: I won't be going for another two-year contract. The once-speedy Telecom NZ now offers Sprint-like speeds, but I'm stuck here until November :(

I have had the iP4 (ATT), 4S and 5 (Verizon) and sadly for one reason or another sold each one, the iP5 would have been great with the bigger screen higher res display, but the lack of voice (3G) and data (4G) at the same time like Android phones can do was a deal breaker and so it went.

I am hoping this time its better or else I will have to consider a move to ATT to get the benefits, but their service simply sucks in my market.

I'm on the every other iPhone 2 year schedule...I skip the "S" versions.

Had a 3G, then 4 now 5, so I guess the next would be a 6?

I've had the 3, 3GS, 4 & now on the 4S. I didn't feel the need to upgrade to the 5 for some reason. The bigger screen wasn't a draw for me and my 4S is in great condition. I love my 4S. May upgrade to the next generation...but we'll see.

Normally two gens but I skipped the iPhone 5 since it isn't that great in my opinion. Still using my iPhone 4 and it's still brilliant.

Original iPhone 16GB - Feb 2008
iPhone 3GS 32GB - June 2009
iPhone 4S 64GB - Oct 2011
iPhone 5S? - Sep/Oct 2013?

4GB iPhone - September 2007
32GB iPhone 3GS - January 2010
32GB iPhone 4S - January 2012

I generally skip to every other generation with around two years between my purchases. I'm still quite happy with my 4S, so we'll see what the next generation brings to the table :)

Are we really going to be waiting for the next iPhone until Sept time frame? Given how quickly they pushed out the iPad4 simply to add a Lightning port tells me they are willing to do what it takes to maintain momentum. That and if the iP5S is nothing more than an updated iP5 there is no real reason to wait until the fall.

I am hoping to see 128GB version, but I'm sure they won't release one until say 4-5 months later.

iPhone 4 (October 2010)
iPhone 5 (November 2012)
Next Upgrade : 2014 launch day. ( and so on :D ) :)

I upgraded when my phone began to lag with the latest software, and didn't support some of the new iOS features. I also upgraded because I was switching carriers anyway.

I imagine I'll keep this 5 for at least 2-3 years before I try upgrading.

I don't necessarily 'wait' for the next generation, I use my iPhone until I no longer enjoy using it. Sometimes that's a year, others it's 2 or 3 years. I'll then look around and see what's available before making my purchase.
