So if I turn off 3G and locations services I should get better usage time? Does anybody keep 3G on when using wifi?

I would say that most people do. There's no reason not to. If WiFi is available the iPhone will use that radio instead, and it draws less power. There's not practical reason to turn 3G off while on WiFi.

Some of you guy's useage/standby times really suck!

Just yesterday, before a full charge last night. At 4% battery, I had 8hrs 8min of useage, and 2days 10hrs standby!

Yikes, and I'm jb'D

Battery: 3%

Usage 11 hours, 21 minutes
Standby: 1 day, 14 hours.

That's with some Twitter, Email, texting and some phone calls. Light browsing and some game/app usage.

I get routinely 3 hours of talk time per day and about another 5-7 hours of standby plus email and minimal web surfing time on a single charge. Almost without fail, my iPhone 4 dies right before dinner every day.

you can't say "usage time sucks" because what you do with that time really makes a difference. its like saying, oh, you only get 19mpg with the same car as i get 32mpg for? but if that person rocks it up and drives like a race car driver, then it makes sense.

My iPhone 4 is on standby for 8 hours in the morning and during school, then i use it a decent amount texting for 7 hours at work, then listen to music with it at the gym for another hour, at the end of the day it has about 15% left.

These threads are never very useful because the usage/standby times are completely dependent on the type of usage. Just because one person can get 8 hours while another gets 5 hours doesn't mean there is anything different about their phones or batteries.

I can get 10 hours usage, 1 day standby if I just use it to watch video.

I can get 7 hours usage and 2 days standby if I only take calls and email over 3G.

I cam burn the phone in 5 hours flat with 5 hours standby if I stream 3G music for 5 hours straight.

If I only use it for occasional calls, I can get 6 hours usage with 6 days standby.

There are so many different combinations you can achieve by tailoring your usage. Overall, the iPhone has great power management of you need it but can be killed relatively fast if you use battery intensive functions constantly.

I get 5-7 hours usage before charging. This is with everything on except Bluetooth. If I use GPS apps they really suck the juice. Wifi and audio use much less. But it really depends how I use it.

It totally depends on what it's doing. Playing games, not much time. Just sitting and making a few calls - a couple of days -
I use an app called Battery Doctor. Tells you how much usage you have left for various tasks. 11 hours video playback - 3hrs 45mins 3d gaming, etc.

These numbers will vary so much depending on what type of usage the person has. Voice calls use far less than gaming or heavy browsing on large web pages.

51%
Usage: 3 hours 24 minutes
Standby: 10 hours 41 minutes

I was also in an area with less than stellar reception for part of the day. My brightness is about 75%.

When I use 3G my battery is done in 4 to 5 hours. When I am at home using Wifi it can last 5 to 6.5 hours

40%
Usage: 4 Hours, 8 Minutes
Standby: 11 Hours, 12 Minutes

Most of my usage is web enabled games, texting/calling and web surfing.

This varies though because on days like today where I'm at school I really don't have that great of reception inside some of the lecture halls and library. When I'm at home and work where I have way better reception I'd have about the same usage and it'd only be at about 70% or 60%.

I get about 5 hours of usage. 3G only, no wifi. Have to charge my phone everyday. I was expecting more but oh well what can you do. Maybe get a blackberry :-D

I'm currently on 80%:
Usage: 2 hrs 40 mins
Standby: 14 hrs 24 mins

Thats with Bluetooth on all the time, connected to WiFi for pretty much all day and responding to texts, calls, web browsing, facebooking, couple of pictures, and other stuff. One thing though, my phone charges for (roughly) twenty minutes on the way to work, and then for about 40 minutes total on the way to gym and back. Which means I haven't actually let it run down completely in about 10 days or so, whereas before it would usually get down to about 10% or so after a day or two and then receive a full charge overnight. Just wondering if not letting it run down combined with charging it more for less time will have any adverse affect on battery life? I haven't really noticed anything wrong with it - in fact I've always found the battery to be really good, but just thinking about long term effects.

After about 10 hours, mine is usually on about 40-50%. Thats with wi-fi, 3G and bluetooth always on, being used for phone calls, texts and various games and apps.

I normally get around 4 hours of useage with about 20% left til I have to charge my iphone up again. That normal? what about you and at what % do you normally out your phone on charge?

"Useage"?

Every one's claims will be different. Is that on the phone talking or playing a game or just doing the Internet?

You will get answers all over the place. Some will claim a week between charges!:p
