Out of curiosity, how come you're breaking your every-other pattern? Did you go from 2 year contracts to buying outright with the 5s?

I unfortunately have not had the best experience with my 5s, and I'm just looking forward to moving onto the next thing. It was mostly iOS 7's fault, and 7.1 fixed a lot of it. Other than that, here are a several silly reasons:

1) I should've gotten the Space Grey one, so this time I will.
2) I want this one to last me until it breaks, and it seems like it will be a great upgrade.
3) I've always owned the 'S' phones, but my favourites tend to be the 4 and 5, so I thought this time I would try getting a non-S phone.
4) It's only gonna cost be about $150 after I sell my phone anyway.

The original one, 3G, 4 and 5s.

Still wonder about that "more than 28" thing. That would mean like 4 iPhones per year! They really do not break that easily, I remember dropping the original one from the stairs, it merely scratched itself.

I've owned the following:

1st Gen iPhone
iPhone 3G
iPhone 3Gs (Upgraded to from 3G for free by Apple)
iPhone 4
iPhone 4s
iPhone 5s

I'll more than likely be getting the "6" and switching carries from AT&T to Verizon when it is available for order also.

Lets see my iPhone history
iPhone 3G Black - hated it
iPhone 4 Black - traded my xbox 360 for it after my GSIII got stolen
iPhone 5 Black - traded my nexus 4 for it
iPhone 3GS Black - still ran great even in 2013
iPhone 5 - shattered screen, replaced the screen with a blue screen and sold it
iPhone 4 - totally dead screen, replaced it with a blue screen and sold it
iPhone 5S Gold - Was my main phone for a while, traded it for a GS5
Currently I have a Black Samsung GS5, but Im looking to get a Black iPhone 6 when it comes out

I've had all generations of iPhones at this point. Currently still have a 2G, 5C and 5S. I'm looking to pick up one of each generation for my collection.

I voted 8, though I suppose I should've gone higher as I've had a couple of replacements over the years. I think total my number would be somewhere around 11-14.

Just 1 with the iphone 3g ... SInce then I've moved on and had 2 generations of Windows Phone and am now looking at going back to iphone in the spring when sales settle down and it's a bit cheaper for me to get one (I have over 2 years left on contract..so will need to pay off the remainder of the contract to upgrade and move to a different carrier).

I'll miss my awesome camera on my nokia since I don't think the iphone even comes close...but... I miss my apps even more (I rock an ipad air as well).

Me personally, that I have used as 'primary phones', NOT counting warranty replacements as separate phones, I am at "sort of 5."

My whole in-house family, not counting warranty replacements, is at 6. I put "sort of 5" because of the six that "anyone in the house" has used, I have at some point used 5 of them.

Whole family listing, by order of purchase:
iPhone (original/2G) bought on launch day. Replaced by Apple as "battery replacement"
iPhone 3G bought on launch day. Replaced by Apple under warranty.
iPhone (original/2G) bought used from a friend on 3G launch day
iPhone 3G bought refurbished
iPhone 4S bought on launch day
iPhone 4 bought used

Usage:
  • iPhone (8 GB): Bought on launch day, I used it, then passed to my son on 3G launch day. He used it until he killed it and upgraded to a 3GS.
  • iPhone (8 GB): bought on launch day by a friend; he sold it to me on 3G launch day for use by my wife. Then she lost it, then it was found, it got replaced ("battery replacement" by Apple for $70 got a like-new replacement,) then my daughter used it, and I'm using it right now as my primary personal phone.
  • iPhone 3G (white, 16 GB): bought on launch day, used by me. Then passed to my wife, then to my daughter, currently unused.
  • iPhone 3G (black, 8 GB): bought refurbished when 3G was still the current model. Used by my wife, then my daughter, currently unused.
  • iPhone 4 (black, 8 GB): bought used when the 4S was current model. Used by my wife, then by me as my 'personal phone' after work provided me with a 5C, now by my daughter.
  • iPhone 4S (white, 16 GB): bought on launch day, used by me, then passed to my wife when work provided me with an iPhone 5C, and I traded down to her iPhone 4.

The only one I have never used as a primary device was my wife's 'bought refurbished' black iPhone 3G, which currently has a cracked screen. I have Whited00r and iDroid loaded on it, just for fun. Everything else I have used as my primary personal phone for some period of time.

My downgrade of my personal phone from 4S to 4 to original was because my work provided me with a 5C. When I first got it, our device management system was strict, with very few third-party apps allowed, and lots of the built-in functionality disabled (Siri, nearly all iCloud functions, the ability to connect to a computer to load music/videos, FaceTime.) So I still wanted to have a personal phone to do those on. So I took my wife's 4 and gave her my 4S. Then a few months later, work "unlocked" our work iPhones, allowing nearly everything (instead of a "whitelisted custom app store," we have access to the full app store with only a few apps blacklisted; and iCloud document storage is blocked, but all other iCloud functionality is enabled, as well as Siri and FaceTime.) Since I can now use my work phone for nearly all "smartphone" usage, I passed the 4 to my daughter to replace her aging 3G, and since the only thing I use my personal phone for is any more is phone calls and text messages, I decided for nostalgia's sake to use the original iPhone. (I'm actually tempted to find an old Motorola SLVR L7 and use that, if I can find a T-Mobile-compatible one with iTunes support.)

So far I have owned three iPhones that I bought new:

Black 32GB Verizon iPhone 4
White 32GB Verizon iPhone 5
Gold 32GB Verizon iPhone 5s

I would actually still have the iPhone 5 now if it wasn't such a problematic phone. Long story short: Genius scratched my phone tossing it around like a hockey puck, all the replacement phones they had wouldn't activate (kept saying Replacement Needed when setting the phone up), manager made me a deal because of all my issues, and I walked with an iPhone 5s off contract for around $400.

I already have a buyer for the 5s and I will be upgrading to my long awaited iPhone 6!

I've owned 4 - 3GS, 4, 4s, 5.

I think I got burnt out buying one every year, as there wasn't a huge difference between them. Decided to try android (again...), instead of getting the 5s, and bought a Nexus 5. Then I sold it and bought an HTC One m8 for the better battery life. If the iPhone 6 is the same size as the nexus then I think it'll be perfect because the HTC feels a bit big.

My sister got a 5c, which reminded me of why I loved my iPhone, and somehow I got swept up in all the iPhone 6 hype... I do love the building excitement of a new iPhone (the rumours, announcement, rush to buy one, etc). Can't say I've ever had that with an android phone.

Assuming it impresses me, and I get an iPhone 6, I'm going to try to be sensible and buy one every 2 years on contract. Hopefully that'll keep them feeling fresh.

White iPhone 3GS and also the white iPhone 5.

Both phones have been replaced by Apple during the 2-year warranty period. In fact, this is my third iPhone 5. However, just counted as two iPhones in the pool.

0. Most likely will be changing that to 1 this year with the iPhone 6! Having an iPod touch 5th gen, then buying a galaxy s4 then buying a retina mini... Running and screaming to the iPhone. I think most all of the features of Android are way overrated.
