In Oct. of 2012, I ordered a BTO Maxed out 13" MBP. I have loved this machine since the day I got it. Just recently I started feeling slow down, so I swapped out the stock 750gb 5400 spinner drive for a 500gb Samsung 950 SSD as my primary boot drive, while the stock HDD is now in my optical bay. I also took it to apple for a battery replacement $130+tax, no labor, not bad IMO for an actual apple part with an apple warranty. They even threw in a new HDD cable for me too, which surprised me because I didn't think they did that anymore.

Anyway, My service guy commented on how I must love my computer and I said I did, naturally, and why, and he agreed and does the same with his older systems.

Im also looking if any members on here have any working or dead dead 2012 MBPs in any config. they would like to off load for cheap/free... I have a few dozen apple devices, mostly free just from asking the right person at the right time.

Thanks guys, Id post this in the for sale section, but after all these years here as a member, I am well adapt at using the search functions, and haven't needed to post enough to get in to that forum myself yet.

And this is my office as it sits.. Soon, a Henge Vertical dock to replace my book arc, as I will be advancing my medical education and need my laptop every day, and don't want to plug/uplug every cable to make it mobile for school, and clamshell at home with my 27"

Here is my garage set up... have a few things coming in the mail to be able to set up all 3 of my 20" ACDs to my mini here.

Lol - I use my 2011 cMBP in daily use in a corporate environment, as I have since new - no you can't have it :)

Im really trying to find a decent system for the wife. she doesn't use her personal computer much at all, but that would change if she had a Mac of her own. And I too, am not willing to give up mine. lol Plus, if we pick one up with something minor wrong, or low disk space or ram, I can upgrade it easily. as Ive maxed out my already BTO max from apple system.

Don't have a system, but wow your garage is clean!

Oh, its not that clean, behind that blue chair all the way to the front of the garage is tool boxes and shelves with tools and supplies, I have a 57 chevy truck in the middle half ripped apart, and the other side is mostly storage... thats just my little desk area in the garage. That one is a 2014 mid-Mac mini HDD model, with added apple SSD/flex cable with 512gb. Its really only used for music and occasionally internet browsing and reference while im working out there. And as far as running 2 for now, but soon, 3 20" apple cinema displays, is because I have the displays, they were all free, and why not? lol

Still running a 2012 15" classic MacBook Pro – last model to allow RAM, hard drive, and battery replacements. Even has a small subwoofer speaker built-in, you don't even see that on the Retina models.

The lifespan of Macs is truly amazing. I'm still running my 2009 15" MBP, and apart from some screen issues, it works flawlessly if a little slow.

Loads of them, many are still running 2006 powerbooks, and a large number are living in the dark ages in general.

Sounds like a fun garage! And you are giving me some ideas for my left over 2009 Mac Mini. Right now it sits in it's box on a home office shelf as part of a display. Such as waste.

So am I, as in my signature. Maxed out the RAM and added SSD, performs BETTER than new...

Nice to see Im not the only one holding onto my 2012 with an iron grip. Once in a while Ive considered a newer system, but then I remember my specs, and the costs of my upgrades, and my actual use and theres simply no reason to upgrade at this point.

My garage set up was more just because. Wife wasn't thrilled I went and bought a brand new mini for the garage when I had a perfectly good Lenovo out there. But what fun is that? (still do have the i5 Thinkpad, and an i5 thinkcentre on win10, but they don't see much use at all around here. They were all freebies too)

An ashtray! You've got an ashtray!

How unfortunate it is that something five years old, and that wasn't cheap, is now considered incredibly old, as if one was taking a dinosaur for a walk. And there's me a driving a 2010 car.

I do, Its the last truly bad habit im still working on kicking. Thus one in the garage, and not in the house.

And you're right. My MBP is one of the newer things I own that cost a significant amount of money. My newest vehicle is an '07, next would be an '04... both of which are *just* below 200k miles... few more thousand on each and they'll be there. lol

Still running an early 2011 15" mbp with broken dgpu (EFI hack salvaged the machine!). Just got a new Arous egpu to put more miles on this old folk.

16GB RAM (the only thing that maxed it was system profiler which ran out of RAM) & 1TB Samsung 850 Pro, it's sad when only recently have the 'new' MBPs caught up with the spec, proc aside, I'll easily get another 3yrs out of it. & to think that the all-in price with the added extras cost less than a basic no frills MBP of today, sad times indeed!:(

I just picked up a 2012 15" for $100. It's in perfect condition and runs great. They complained it was running slow but I know it could be improved. I've had a few non-retina MBPs. So I increased the Ram from 4Gb to 16Gb and added a 500Gb Samsung SSD I had laying around and it's great. It's what I'm typing on right now. With the 15" being Quad Core, it still performs as well as the newer models for what I use it for. For multicore performance it beats even the newest 13" models.
