Quick question. i was wondering... Does anybody know how many members there are here on mac rumors? :) More than 1000? I have no clue..Anyway i think it'd be a cool fact or something to know..thanks:apple: :D

Where did you get that from??
85578 is the amount from the members list in the menu

EDIT: Seen where you got that from. Why are the two numbers different??

I don't think that banned members or members that ask to have their accounts rendered inactive count in the member list. So the 98723(or whatever it is now) is all the members that have ever signed up, and the 85578 is all of the non-banned, non guest accounts.

Talking about bannings, why was BakedBeans?? He's not been here in a long time

98,723 minus 85,578 = 13,145 spam accounts that have been banned (or not activated). :)

There are roughly 7,498 members actively posting in the last month or so. But many more lurkers.

last time i checked, there were something like 82000 members, only 4000 of them have posted more than 30 times, and some newbie accounts have been here for about 4 years, but the owner of the account hasn't even looked at the forums in 3.

why aren't some of those accounts deleted to free up some of the usernames?

While we are on this topic again.... will there be a 100,000 member celebration? At the current rate this should happen in April or May?

some more research shows that we have 25616 who have never posted, the oldest being registered on 06-05-2000. Considering that account is coming up 7 years old, do we really have any reason to believe that the person who registered will ever post anything?

I was part of a forum once where this happened...where a lot of people posted only a few times and never came back.

So, at the end of the year (like at the end of November), they sent out a huge e-mail to every member ever registered asking them to confirm their account. If they didn't confirm, then there account was deleted on January 1st.

I don't think this would be such a bad idea, only maybe if we sent out that e-mail several months ahead of deletion day instead of a month because on that board, a lot of people forgot their passwords, etc. (that was another thing....you had to confirm by entering your username and password, but it'd probably be easier for us all if MR were to just ask for your username.)

That's what I think we should do.

I think we should do that too. I was lucky my name hadn't been taken...

Thats all well and good but how many members did that forum have. It would be a big task to email all 98,000 members and get replies.
