haswell battery life lasts perfectly fine
including Retina display and keeping it as long as current haswell model and everyone agrees it will worth it
i believe Apple will manage to build it :)

...

I am. If the next Air has retina that will be the laptop I buy. I test drove the Air and Pro years ago and I really preferred the Air. The battery life and price were not compatible at the time so I stuck with my iMac.

So if the 2014 has retina, I will pick it up (new gen be darned.) I do not need a warhorse machine anymore, but the retina screen is a must.

Perhaps retina will eventually be installed across all macbooks across the board...

"Perhaps"???! Retina will be on ALL computer vendor's displays eventually. There will come a point where will be no display made where you can easily see the pixels (the current low end displays will be in museums). This is the future.

It's like color vs black and white TVs. Can you even buy a black and white TV for commercial use? No one would consider that any more. Also, I'm sure there were those who scoffed at color in a TV, saying it was simply 'eye candy'.

Retina will be the norm eventually. Apple tends to accelerate the natural transition because their customers are willing to pay extra for things that make using their products more enjoyable and productive.

Unless you work in the design team for Apple, or have access to insider info about their notebook design plans, then I would agree that you are perhaps correct in regards to the retina plan.

If Apple releases a redesigned Retina MBA, I will be happy to upgrade.

I'm currently using a 2011 MBA 13". I use it daily for University (Bachelor in Economics). The combination of power and mobility, coupled to great battery life makes it the best computer I've ever used. Without using Wi-Fi, brightness on 50 % and just taking notes - I get 10 hours of battery life. Quite amazing, seeing as it already has nearly 300 cycles.

I could do with a better screen however, and was really interested in upgrading to the RMBP for a while, but now I've decided to wait and see if the 2014 refresh bring retina to the Air. Getting a Retina-screen, without having to sacrifice the thinness and low weight of the Air would be amazing.

Here's to hoping that Apple continues to offer a 13" option though. :)

You are naive to think that there is the slightest possibility that Apple will ALWAYS have a single computer product that uses a non-retina display.

Period.

A speculation, even a probable guess, is made with a message that it is coming as such, not as though it's coming from a credible source. Who did you learn to use proper English from? Politicians?

the Air already has an outdated screen, even for being non-Retina.

Outdated and sub standard based on my first hand experience. I took mine back to see what the genius thought and he chose to replace it. Unfortunately the new one was the same, but I was pleased that at least they tried. If the rest of Apple was run as well as customer service they'd really be a great company.

I'm quite torn as well. I have a mid 2011 Air and would like to upgrade (RAM in particular, but 512 SSD is also very attractive). I played with the thought of getting a mac mini the more heavy duty office work and keep the Air as my mobile unit, but now I'm back to wanting to stick with only one machine. I'm not too bothered by the lack of retina, as I often work with an external display - but since next year is likely to see a lot of changes, I'm thinking I might regret it next year if I upgrade now...

I just pulled the trigger on a new 13". I calculated that if I sell my current Air and two of my e-readers that I've been meaning to sell for a while, upgrading now won't cost much. Went with the base model this time except the 8GB RAM. 256GB of storage should last me another couple of years if I stick movies and old photos on a non-synced dropbox folder.

Currently have base line 2011 13" MBA (i5, 4GB RAM, 128GB SSD) and it's still doing a really good job considering I bought it as the 2012 models come out at PCWORLD UK for £600 brand new! As they was getting rid of old stock!
So might consider the 2014 machine if not probably 2015 depending on spec & changes made I can still get £500-600 for my machine now so would still be breaking even! :D

Yup. Love that.

I don't get why Apple has started removing the model name on their Retina MacBook Pro's though? I, for one, hope that the "MacBook Air" naming remains on the bottom of the screen. I can't help but thinking that the new rMBP's look a bit "no-name".

Why not? I think Apple is just going the iOS way, minimal branding and all you see is the screen. I think someone posted once that there was a technical reason for removing the naming, but I much prefer it being removed.

If the bezel can be made smaller by removing the name then I'm fine with that. I hope that they keep the illuminated .Apple' logo on the display. I think that looks really cool!

Hopefully the new MBA will be so thinr and light that it is obviousy not a MBP (or the previous MBA model). I'd love for Apple to redefine the 'ultra book' computer.

Any way of knowing when they will announce the next MBA? I've been wanting to buy and new macbook since I still have the 2010 white one. Was looking into the 2013 11" MBA but I'm willing to wait for the next one

I just picked up a 2012 MBA 13" with 8gb ram for a good price on Craigslist... ($800)

Hoping to sell this one (and not lose too much off the $800) around June when the 2014 comes out and will pick that one up brand new. Wonder how much it will retail for... 13" with 8gb ram that is.

I just hope this 2012 one lasts! It has the dreaded Toshiba SSD in it, so that has me worried.

Don't expect it any earlier than June 2014.

I am tempted to pull the trigger on a mid '13 11 inch Air, because it would complement my workflow nicely, but I am also cautious because Broadwell and IGZO could mean so many things...

I currently have a mid 2012 rMBP 15", but even if feels extremely hefty for carrying from place to place. Plus, I probably don't need such an elaborate setup whilst traveling. Thus, the 11".

What are your thoughts?

I have the same case with you, i'm go with MBA 13 (4GB/128GB) :D
just for mobile office and travelling

The only way that we will see it earlier is if Apple gets a special deal with Intel to get the Broadwell chips earlier than others. It would not surprise me if that happens but most likely we will see it announced at Apple's WWDC.

Oh. Yeah I do that too sometimes but that drains the battery faster and it was just be more convenient if I could pop in a sim card into the laptop.

Actually the 3G/LTE module would drain your battery faster than WiFi, just look at the iPad. Your mobile isa different story.
