The ringer goes on at night. If the phone is with me or on my desk, I'll feel the shaking or hear it rattling, so it stays hushed at work.

As for it falling off, on the iPhone 4, it looks pretty tough. Time will tell though.

I use it all the time. If I'm in a public place its on vibrate. In the car or at home it's on ring. I usually keep the ringer in if it's not in my pocket or holster

I never use ring. It attracts too much attention. And I'm always at school (high school normally and college classes in summer) so I can't afford to have it ring on accident. Then it'll get confiscated and me screwed.

I used it on 3G all time at work but it kept turn on and off in my pockets, on the 4 is much better; however I'm using now a bumper and never used a case on the 3G.

On my 3g...mine did "FALL OFF" after 1 year and 11 months of usage...2 weeks before I got the iphone 4. Resale value just went WAY down on that thing, I'm guessing. Hoping the iphone 4 is a little sturdier. But then, I'll probably be buying iphone 6 or whatever it's called in 2 years.

Every day until it broke (3G). Now I have to hit the volume rocker. Looking forward to getting an iPhone 4 (waiting for white) so I can use the ringer switch again.

That's like buying a car but not opening the door because you're afraid the handle will fall off.

I use it all the time. However on my old iPhone 3G, I dropped it on the bathroom floor and it landed on the vibrate switch. Since then it just vibrated uncontrollably and would not stop if you set it on vibrate. Sooo I recommend not dropping it on the sides of the phone.

I toggle mine a dozen times a day (3GS), and have for a year. No issues with it. I had my iPhone 1 for 2 years; never had trouble with its, either.
I wrote that this morning. I cannot express how uncanny it is that a few moments ago, my wife texted me to tell me her button just fell off her 3G!

If I wanted to start a flame war I would say that audible ringers/ringtones of any kind (unless you are distant from your phone for some ungodly reason) are for those who seek attention.
But I don't, so I won't.
And we won't mention those who answer and talk in front of other people, like they're not there.
That's what cellular phone booths are for.;)

Or for people who would rather hear music they enjoy instead of the crap ring tones the phone comes with. However, in public I'm 85% on vibrate, and hate answering calls in front of people.

I use it twice a day. Once right before leaving for work, and when I get home from work, I switch it back to the ringer. That has been working fine for me. I typically leave it on ringer on the weekends.
