I use an iMac DV 400Mhz with 384Mb ram. It works fine in OS X, but it has a habit of getting a bit sluggish when I use many apps at one time. The fact that Quartz Extreme needs minimum 16Mb ram annoys me since I only have 8Mb. I think Quartz would have sped me up a bit. But I'll survive...;)

We run X (10.2.4) on a Beige G3 333 here and it's very stable. It's frozen a couple of times, but that's it. There is no 9 or Classic on this machine.

Yeah, it's a bit slow, but it does the job for managing eBay auctions and checking email and web stuff. Photoshop really isn't roo bad either.

A great workhorse!

Interesting to hear people found ye olde imac useful for running OSX.

I gave it a go on my 500 graphite DV but found the OS way too sluggish and beachballs of death abounded.

Also didn't like the way it blotted out parts of the screen in Classic, where type was over the desktop. My income app is Quark and so I was rebooting often between play and work.

But alas, ended up having one almighty hard drive crash and had to reformat (lucky I do regular backups onto a 20Gb Imation Firedisk, a fine device), and now only run 9.2.2. I suspect one beachball too many...

I think I'll wait to a) I have the dosh, b) the Powermac is proven to be a quiet machine. And that new 20" monitor -- droooool

Miss the X experience but anticipation is everything, isn't it?

When I first installed OSX it was virtually unusable........ it's was an entirely different story after 10.2 .......you really should udprade again, If my 400MHZ DV is running great your 500Mhz Dv shouldn't have any problem at all. New Chimera & Safari browsers are also really fast with OSX.....

Here's my desktop with the dock....I use it when I have a browser or program open, but I still like the icons on the desktop:eek:
