I use two computers, a MacBook Pro for portability and a Desktop PC at home. I use the PC for large data storage, gaming, movies, etc. and the Mac for work and college. My MacBook is basically connected to iCloud all the time so I can easily access its files from my PC if I have to, but not the other way around.

I work from home so my iMac is a 2014 27 inch 5k iMac and all work docs are synced via dropbox.

I don't like cloud sharing my personal info so all that and iTunes/photo libraries resides on the iMac. I do wish I could have the music and photo libraries on the laptop as well but its the sync issue and also space as they are both quite large.

I think my future plan is a new laptop with super large HD that can keep it all on and then a nice monitor to hook up to. I will then scrap dropbox and just have everything on a local drive.

What will your backup plans be for the laptop with the super large HD?

My problem is that both my iMac and current laptop only have 256g ssd drives so at the minute iTunes, photos & family videos stored though final cut has to live on external drives.

I have a Drobo which would still have to house the iTunes library as its quite large but the photos and final cut library could live on the future laptop and then be time machined to a another back up drive.

Super large SSD would ideally 2TB but thats big bucks at the moment. Wishful thinking is that this will come down in price in the future.

And what is your method of syncing things between them? Do you sync everything or just select things? Just curious as I've only really used one personal computer at a time but the temptation to get a second one is strong and I know others use multiple.
I have a Surface Pro 4 that I use in addition to a gaming desktop that I have in my parents house that I access through TeamViewer which runs my Plex Media Server. My wife's Mac Mini is hooked up to our TV in the bedroom that I use to stream movies. I use Google Drive to keep files synced and Chrome syncs the bookmarks between all of my devices.
At work I have whatever Dell the government purchased.
However I just setup my own NAS box and I am experimenting with remote access and file sharing via my NAS box. Which would lead me to drop Dropbox.
Can you tell me how you did that? I have an NAS and would like to be able to utilize it like a cloud drive when I am away.
I know this is not popular here but I can see why MS still dominate enterprise - the products and services are very complete as is support.
I agree with you. Microsoft Office is far superior to any of the alternate products.

Which NAS do you have? I have a Synology box and they have something called "DS Files" which allows me upload documents and the like and then view them from any iOS device I have along with any Mac I have. You can set the security permission along with having more than one iOS device access. I am sure there is also an Android version.

I also have a QNAP one, which I don't use as much since my QNAP has been regulated to backups only.

2. My main windows 10 gaming rig as well as my MacBook Pro. I don’t really share much between them, most of my important files are on external storage or in iCloud.

I have a WD MyCloud currently. I will see if it has anything similar.

Just one, a Lenovo t460s. I own it but it was bought according to the guidelines of my job's byod policies. Also have an iPhone, two iPads and two low cost Android tablets.

I use iCloud, Microsoft One Drive and Google Drive sync between my iPhone, tablets and laptop. I prefer to have full control of exactly what and when to sync between my devices. No automatic sync whatsoever and no I do not sync everything.

Mid-2012 13" MB Pro for myself, and two work laptops (one Win10 and one using Ubuntu).

I'm teleworking today, too. My wife is dancing to Zumba videos from Youtube on her MB Air.

Three computers here: 2015 MBP 13", 2015 MBP 15", 2017 MB, 12". In addition, iPad Pro 10.5, iPad Pro 12.9, and iPhone X. All are synchronized with each other so that if I get an email or a text message on one, it shows up on all of them. All also have my complete iTunes library and a special folder of photos on them as well. I use the 2015 15" MBP as my primary computer, the one which does the heavy lifting and which I consider as a desktop replacement. The 13" 2015 MBP is still here because I never could quite get myself to sell it and I've found that it comes in very handy at various times, although I don't use it daily. The 12" 2017 MB lives in the bedroom and is the machine that I use in the evenings after 10:00 PM or so. I live in a condo apartment and there is someone right beneath me, hence the need to not be staying up until 1:00, 2:00 AM on the computer in the main living area. My moving myself into the other room and getting back on the computer or another device there keeps the peace everywhere. Sometimes i don't bother with the MB and grab an iPad instead (especially on a cold night or cold morning where it's nice to huddle under the covers in my warm bed......)

I use iCloud to sync everything between all of the devices. However.....I keep my machines "lean and mean," so that I tend to accumulate most stuff on the 2015 15" MBP and once a month after a full backup clear away for archival or supplementary storage anything that is not necessary to have on the machine's SSD all the time. I use external drives for backing up and for creating supplementary drives, and that has worked out well for me so far. I use iCloud and occasionally Google Drive for stuff that I want to access from anywhere, but do not put everything on there -- I'm leery of sharing my personal medical/health information or my tax information with the world! Sometimes I'll grab an interesting file or image from the internet while I'm on one or another device, and depending upon size and such, I'll either email it to myself so that the "main" machine will get it, or sometimes I'll just plug in a thumb drive or external drive to transfer the goods from one place to another. To me the value of iCloud is the ability to synchronize stuff such as bookmarks, contacts, etc. It is nice that when a friend sends a change-of-address notification that I can jump into whatever device I happen to be near at the time, put in the new info and -- voila! It shows up on all of my computers, my iPads and my iPhone with no fuss, no muss....it just works!

When I had a file on the "wrong" device, I used to move it by email or a thumb drive, but more often I'd say "I'll do that later" and never get to it. So these days I either use AirDrop to get it where it's supposed to be or I move it into Dropbox at the source and move it out of Dropbox on the target.

Calendar and Contacts are synced using iCloud, and Mrs. Q and I share those so we're both up to date. To avoid annoying each other with calendar events at our separate jobs, we have one shared calendar and each have a non-shared calendar.

The remaining problem is that if I make an album in Photos with a set of photos in the order I want, I don't know a way to give Mrs. Q a copy of that album while preserving the order and other properties.

I used to do that with Dropbox, but stopped using it after there was some glitch or other.....and I can still do that with iCloud or Google Drive, but usually it's just as easy to go ahead and send an email right then and there.

Photos I do not sync and I do not use iCloud or Apple's Photos program. That way I'm able to arrange things the way I want them, and do that in the primary computer. I usually don't keep a lot of photos on any of my devices, just a folder of special ones that I especially like. These also sync to my Apple Watch, too, to serve as custom faces.
