Stretching here, but I have a couple... I am a somewhat distant cousin (by marriage) of golfer Jerry Pate, and my grandfather (Robert G. Johnson) was Speaker of the House here in NC way back in the 1930s.

Hollywood-wise, my Dad was an extra in The Great Gatsby, with Robert Redford and Mia Farrow (onscreen for several seconds, 30 minutes into the movie), and my uncle's house in Wilmington, NC was used in the movie Amos & Andrew with Nicolas Cage and Samuel L. Jackson. (It was the house of the "nosy next-door neighbors" played by Michael Lerner and Margaret Colin.)

You think thats stretching it? My claim to fame is being related to Michael Faraday by him being my great-great grandfather by marriage! Tenuous or what. Oh - and an Indian Test cricketer by 2nd cousiness on my dad's side...

OK. One of my friends went out with this girl from California, who was friends with Hilary Duff. So, 3 degrees of separation from her and then 4 from pretty much the rest of Hollywood.

my friend got her phone number, but about a year before she broke into the mainstream hollywood scene, at a club in hollywood.

I know a guy who knows a guy that *knows* a...

I got nothing.

*gnaws on some bamboo*

Actually I guess I know a professional football player and had Christmas with a big ten University basketball coach... but I really don't like sports sooo...

It was rather odd because I went to the basketball guy's house with everybody and he was like, "Do you guys want some stuff? I'll sign it!" I declined because I really just didn't care. Ah well.

Ohh! I went to an Easter party on the South Lawn (I think) of the White House when Reagan was President and saw him in the balcony when he waved. I was like... 7 maybe?

I've talked to some of the band "Travis" pre-show since I showed up waaaay too early and held onto a bottle of Vodka for one of the guitarists of Dido while he was getting his picture taken. Which was sorta an awkward moment because I wasn't 21 I don't think, I was outside with an open bottle of vodka, and there were police officers there to hold the crowd back...

But related... not really. :(

Not counting relatives (since others seem to be doing that), I've met Steve Ballmer once and Bill Gates twice. The second time, Bill actually apologized to me for something that happened the first time I met him. (I was supposed to demo for him a program I that wrote for Microsoft tech support engineers, but I was the last stop on his tour, he had to get to his flight, and I ended up sitting around for several hours before someone finally told me he was gone.) I also have a Microsoft Mouse 2.0 (Dove bar mouse) that he signed... it's in a Ziploc bag at the moment for safekeeping.

And my slight claim to fame is that I've had a feature article about my condo in Charlotte Magazine, and my name appears in the Easter Egg for Office 2000.

One of my professors (and advisors) at school knows both President of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai and US Ambassador to Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad personally. So I'm no more than three degrees from George W. Bush, or anyone else with whom Karzai does much business.

My own early brush with celebrity: the one on the right is me circa 1966!

That is great! I love that! I'm an art director and sometimes I have to shoot kids for ads. I always wonder what they'll think later on.

Celebrities I met are:
Emeril, Tony Danza and Katie Couric, Matt Lauer, and Al Roker. and a bunch of other food network chefs ( I use to work there)
I have a picture of tony Danza and I, but I hate the way I look in the picture.

Closest thing I've got is going to the same school as J.K Rowling - albeit quite a few years after she did.

And my flatmates friend used to play with Richard Bransons kids

I think thats it for me!

One of my closest friends is Meredith Vieira's (of the tv show The View) son and she is one of my moms best friends...

My step-mom is somewhat closely related to the playwrite Thorton Wilder...

And then at my school tons of people are related to the famous...

Andrew Jackson is my grandfather, although quite a few "greats" in there. Not by blood, since he never had kids, but through adoption.

I've driven skateboarders Laban and WeeMan around on a hunt for Taco Bell once, and WeeMan paid for my food. Got to chat about Jackass a little, but more about school and stuff.

My past band was on some nationwide compilations a few years back, most notably appearing with the band Anti-Flag.

I dunno, nothing too exciting really, though.

my second cousins are descendents of former presidents william henry harrison and benjamin harrision, and general robert e lee of the civil war

i am not personally related to anyone famous and would never want to be unless it was someone from a long time ago...it would suck be closely related to george w bush or saddam hussein

my grandfather was a high official in japan and met the emperor

The only one I can think of is, a friend of mine's dad was in a band called The Lemon Pipers, their song "Green Tambourine" hit it big in 1968.

That's all I got.

My grandmother is convinced that my grandfather's mother was a direct decendant of Martha Washington (or her sibling?), but not George since he was impotent and had no children. As with any of these kinds of statements, I'm not entirely convinced, but I suppose it's entirely possible.

My great-grandfather argued an important immigration case before the Supreme Court, where the majority decided that Portland, Oregon had no right to turn away a group of immigrants (who were Russian Jews) on the grounds that they would be an economic burden to the city. The Court decided that immigration is a matter of federal law, not state or local law, and that cities and states have nothing to say about it. It set an important precident (obviously).

My cousin married one of John D. Rockerfeller's brother's great-great granddaughters.

My father is world-famous, but only if you happen to be interested in the academic study of Indian (as in the country) mythology.

When I was in the Peace Corps I met, talked to for a few minutes, and shook the hand of Yevgeni Primakov, who was Prime Minister of Russia before Putin (before Putin became President).

Through jobs I've had in DC I've worked with or met people who know the really famous people (like Senators, Presidents, etc.), but the people I know are only really known in their particular circles.

That's all I can think of right now, except that a college friend of mine's sister married John Melancamp.

My uncle was in a band with Roger Taylor (drummer in Queen) before they got famous. I spoke to him on the phone a few times when he called my Grandmother's house several years ago.

I also went to school with the son of Hugh Hudson, who directed Chariots of Fire and Tarzan: Legend of Greystoke (and that BA winking eye ad).

For the English people - I had a phone conversation with Mary Whitehouse about 17 years ago when I was on kids tv. Very strange woman.

Somewhere down the line, I beleive Matthew Mcconaughey is relation, somehow.

Very few people share that last name in this country, so I wouldn't be suprised at all if he was a distant cousin.

My best friend claims he is cousins with Joe McIntyre, but I can't speak for that one way or the other.

Not really a 'celebrity', but my great grandfather invented the railroad switch that allows trains to switch from one track to the next. He later sold the patent - which we still have a copy of along with the diagrams and things.

my cousin toured and wrote many songs for a little band called Phish.....
and i don't know which songs :(
an uncle or smehting, he's family is all i know worked on videos for modonna

My uncle has worked on the set of some movies and drove the actors/crew around for the new "Lion, Witch, and the Wardrobe" movie. My step-cousin (step-daughter of this same uncle) is apparently really good at skeleton-racing (a type of sled I think) and has gone to Olympic trials. My brother was is in semi well-known indie band called The Press (their CD is on iTunes: Noxious Saucy Beast). I've met Mariah Carey multiple times and know some people who work for her. Apparently, 'Lil Bow Wow went to school with my cousin's friends' younger siblings. Oh and I have a friend whose family is friends with the Editor of the National Enquirer.

I think that's it; nothing particularly interesting.

EDIT: I remembered that Jimmy Carter's grandchildren go to my school (they may have graduated though, last year) and he has spoken at our graduation before.

Oh.. one more.

My girlfriend's great, great grandfather was married to Betsy Ross.

And on her tombstone, it reads "Betsy Ross.... Claypoole."

She's a Claypoole.

:)
