My MBP is my main computer, along with an external display. I almost never use it as laptop except for the occasional class or when I travel. If I had to do it again I would seriously consider a 27" quad iMac and a white MacBook for traveling, the MBP is nice, but I don't like hauling $2800 around with me everywhere, so it spends 98% of it's time on my desk.

yep using a 2.0ghz first gen unibody. But im curious to find out whether switching to a MBA would be sufficient seeing how the higher end airs have more processing power than my current macbook

For work I use the company computer branded Toshiba running Windows...
For personal usage,I use 13" MBP,and I have another ASUA running Windows, but seldom use it....

last February I started with a MBP and added a wireless keyboard, mouse and m-stand. I then decided to add a 24" ACD. My partner liked it so much i rarely got to use the thing so December I added a mac-mini :D

I use my MBP as primary and only machine with combination with my cinema display, I think it's the perfect set-up :D

I use my 13" MBP as my main computer. However I connect it to 2 external monitors (23" Dell Pro Series, and Samsung 22") so I have a triple monitor setup with it :D I love it! In the future I might consider getting a Mac Mini when my MBP starts to show its age!

using a Powerbook / Macbook Pro as main computer since 2003 and never looked back. My new MBP 17" is even powerful enough to run Dragon Age on native resolution with 2x AA and usually very good framerates. The 17" display is so good, I don't even bother connecting my external display most of the time.

:apple:My 15" MBP (aluminum) is my basic do everything computer. It has never once failed in that regard and really does get everything done. It has the perfect mix of speed, style, quality and portablity. I love it and swear by this machine. The only thing is that its getting a little bit old when I look at other peoples computers and the chassis flexes alot now, but thats ok, it still does what its supposed to do as a computer :apple:

How are you getting the second external display going?

I have had the original 2006 white MacBook since it's launch as my main machine, until yesterday when I was given a delightful 15" MBP which will remain my sole computer for the next few years.

I have a monitor and keyboard setup that others have details, and to be honest, I absolutely love the flexibility of attaching it to a monitor and feeling like I have desktop-like performance but with the ability in a matter of seconds to yank the cables out and run out of the house with my main computer.

I use my MBP as a desktop. I only have an external mouse, I'm using the in-built keyboard and display. Slowness of 2.5" disks is a mild frustration (I'd love a 10000 rpm VelociRaptor) and also 4 GB memory limit on my 2007 MBP is annoying. But aside from that, great desktop, I'll be replacing it with another once the new MBP's are released next year.

Why don't you get a SSD?

What! Having used a Mac Pro for the past 3 years, I can't imagine using a laptop as a main computer. And I do know what I'm talking about -- I have two MBPs in the house, in addition to a PC laptop, so stop hatin'. C'mon, let's not kid ourselves about a laptop being a desktop computer. Just spend a day on a MP and you'll never go back to a laptop for anything but web browsing on the toilet.

It is my main computer, as i do a lot of web browsing and MSN on it on the sofa while watching TV etc. Photo Editing i usually get upto a desk and use it there.

Plenty fast enough for what im doing for now, HDD is becoming limiting, upgrade soon :p

My 15' MBP with the Intel X-25 is my main computer 100% of the time. At home I plug into a 22 inch external display and have no problems.

Actually, I have to agree, I've been using my MacBook as a Desktop for about two years now, and I don't they are able to provide enough power, those mobile CPU's just can't quite give the power the desktop ones are able to. Also Integrated Graphics solutions just crumble when you try to use two displays. So I'm now saving for a High spec iMac or a Mac Pro.

The thread wasn't about whether the laptop is as powerful as a desktop (obvious). It's about those who feel that it's powerful enough for their needs and combine it with a screen and keyboard at home to save space and money.

None is hating. Actually none is caring. 90% of the people have had a desktop computer at some point...

where do I start, lol ... okay for 'you' a Mac Pro is the ultimate set up ... for others who posted here including myself don't like being tied to a desk and like the option of adding one or two ACD's when at a desk.

Unless you're doing heavy work ... a great combo like an MBP and ACD blows the Mac Pro idea away, I know I have both and a few more Mac's here ... the Mac Pro gets used for downloads, storage, server etc, but my 15" MBP is my 'main work machine' it's great !

A USB graphics card? Does such a thing even exist?? I cannot possibly think of a more useless and idiotic invention.

He's more likely using dual-link DVI to run two separate monitors.

Actually, no I am using a USB > DVI adapter. It uses Displaylink technology (allows you to connect up to 6 displays through USB). It supports Full HD resolution and it's pretty cheap. The adapter Im using is the "Diamond BVU 195". Google around and you will find that Displaylink products actually work pretty well (very little lag). Hope this answers all those questions!

I use my 13" Mid-2009 as my main machine. I have a computer at work, but I bring my laptop to work. I love OSX.

As a college student, I can't exactly afford more than one machine anyway, so using my MBP as a desktop is ideal. I'd say it gets about 70% of it's use at my modest desktop setup, with just some relatively nice speakers, an external drive, and a mouse that never gets used anyway. I do tend to carry it around with me a lot just in case I need it though.
