What is with all these "iPad requires a computer" posts? If you're on MacRumors.com, I assume you know that iOS 5 will bring PC-less syncing. Remember WWDC 2011? From about 2 months ago? All the talk about how annoying it's getting to have to deal with a PC for all your syncing and backups and how everything will be PC-less in iOS 5?
The "not for content creation" argument is getting really old too. It's just not true at all, at least not anymore.
But to add to the OP--My parents are going to use the iPad 2 as their main home computer. They live out in the middle of nowhere and currently pay $60a month to the only satellite internet provider available in their area for an internet connection that's less than 1 Mbps if it's functioning at all. They now have full Verizon 3G coverage at their house and decided to ditch their satellite internet and get an iPad 2 3G. (BTW, they tried a US Cellular Galaxy Tab for about 2 weeks and hated it.)
Next time they come to visit, I'm going to take them on an Apple Store shopping spree. They're going to buy a bluetooth keyboard, an AirPrint printer, and the camera connection kit. And they will finally have a decent connection to do Skype with my kids without all the hassle of me coaching them through it. It will be an ideal situation on both ends, as I hate being everyone in my family's personal IT bitch.
There are a lot of different types of computer user, and I would venture to say that over half of them could probably just use an iPad as their main computer. I need a full blown computer with at least two monitors for my job, but for everything else, I don't need a computer at all, and I'm in the IT field.
