I'm planning to buy a used iPhone XR and hesitating if I should just buy it. I know for sure that once iPhone 12 releases, brand new iPhones' price would drop.

But for the used market(eBay), how much the iPhone 12 release will reduce the price (if any)? I'm new to both the world of eBay and Apple. Thank you in advanced for any advice.

I would say it more heavily impacts the previous year’s devices. The Xr is already 2 generations old so I don’t see value decreasing significantly especially since it was always priced as the “budget” model.

I agree it won’t drop significantly. Also I would steer clear of eBay. You just don’t know what you are getting on there. People sell remans as brand new, don’t ship the correct model for your carrier etc etc. Go with swappa.com. Much better in my opinion. Keep in mind that what ever price on there you buy it for they will add a 10 dollar fee plus you will most likely pay your states sales tax as well. Much better vetting process to weed out scammers on there though.

I would look at like it depends on the storage/condition/color that all factor into the ‘used price‘. I would also use a comparison tool not just with eBay, but with Swappa to see what the XR will fetch.

I’d also say the Xr won’t change much. Mostly the 11 and 11 Pro will have the big drop. Then rebound some after a couple weeks. Then start dropping again after the New Years. Other models will drop some.

Just look how the X and 8s compare to Xr pricing.
