My wife called me and said she broke her ip6+. The screen is destroyed along with the LCD display (it's black). I don't have Apple Care on it, how much does Apple charge to replace the phone?

Its still under warranty until September though. Their website says $129 for a screen replacement but then it says this right below it......"Accidental damage isn’t covered under the Apple One Year Limited Warranty."
Right. So, you'll be charged the OoW price because accidental damage is not covered by warranty. Therefore the damage done to the phone is 'Out of Warranty'.

i am just curious but how does one even damage a screen without an accident

I was thinking the exact same thing. If a screen replacement costs a set amount it shouldn't matter if the screen is damaged or not.

Perhaps the language is to differentiate between manufacturing defects which would be covered under warranty and accidental damage which would not be?

No idea. But the difference is coverage.

The standard warranty is one year long and does not give you ADH (Accidental Damage and Handling). AC+ of course, extends the warranty a year AND gives you three ADH incidents, all for about $99 or so (depending on what model you have and when you bought it).

So, accident or no, if you have AC+ you're covered.

All of that said, there have been some users who reported here on the forums that their screens simply cracked through no fault of their own. Take that as you will.

Perhaps, but since the device is still within warranty I would assume it qualifies for the $129 screen replacement regardless of the reason. But it could be argued due to the accidental damage they have to pay the out of warranty cost. I guess I don't understand why somebody would pay $129 to replace a screen if not for accidental damage.

you are wrong. i just checked their website. if you are still under warranty and nothing but the screen is broken they only charge you $129. now if the screen is broken and the phone got water damaged its more expensive. why is the iPhone 6 screen cheaper than the 5+ screens btw ^^

I would venture that the term "warranty replacement" again goes back Apple replacing something at their expense bc of manufacturing defect while "out of warranty replacement" means that the phone is still guaranteed against manufacturing defect, but that particular replacement isn't covered due to it being caused by accident).

The price OP will be charged is based on one thing. And that is if the store OP takes the phone to is one of the stores that is equipped to do screen repairs.

I quoted the OP the OoW price on the assumption that the store would replace the phone and not just the screen. Certainly if the OP sends it to Apple OP will probably get the repair price and not the OoW price. Likewise, if OP takes the phone to an Apple store that is equipped to replace the screen then that is most likely the price OP will be charged and not OoW.

However, screen repair/replacement is relatively new to the Apple stores. The chance that OP's local store will have that capability is probably not good.

:) I was wrong? LOL. I said "perhaps" and included question marks. Didn't claim it was canon, bro.

I think newest model replacement costs are lower bc they're still being manufactured and available more readily. But again, that's just a guess.

I understand the difference between a warranty repair vs an out of warranty repair, I just wasn't aware of the details until you attached the screen capture. So as long as the device has no damage other than the screen the OP will only have to pay $129.

I shattered my 6+ screen a few months ago and it was $129 plus tax, and it took them 30 minutes to replace. It was good as new when they were done.

I was really hoping to only be out that much, but the screen isn't the only damage. The phone is also bent.

I'm pretty sure it's going to cost me more than $129 :(

I think a lot of people aren't. I currently live in a rural area (town of 30,000), and the closest Apple Store is 1.5hrs away. People are always shocked when I tell them that they don't have to pay the local computer repair shop $300 to replace their iPhone screens.

See my above post then and good luck. They rate this as a "moderately difficult" repair but it's eight screws and a suction cup. It's a piece of cake.

Sounds like it could be the cost of a new iPhone 6+. Apple won't repair a bent phone.

I wont be attempting an iphone repair after I failed miserably trying to replace my screen on my old iphone 4 a year ago lol. Thanks though.

unfortunately I think you may be right. You could get an incredibly generous apple genius who will ignore the screen damage and exchange the device for free based on the phone being bent. Or, you will have to pay the full out of warranty cost due to the screen damage plus the phone being bent. It's really difficult to say now.
