Guys...

So my phone bills with Orange UK / EE have been coming up to 100odd for the last year or so.

Never thought much of it, as I make a lot of international calls.

Anyway got a text from Orange saying I went over my data allowance this month. Turns out I am using 5.5GB per month

My standard tariff is:

Unlimited Minutes
Unlimited Texts
3GB of data per month.

Thinking of moving there charging me stupid money, and they never told me!!

I had Unlimited w/VZW for years but have since switched over to their Share Everything w/8gb data pool.

The max data we've used in the past 12 months on the plan w/ 4 active smartphones (2x iPhones & 2 x HTC Incredible 2) has been 700mb.

Everybody on the plan has been well trained to leave wifi turned on and use it when/wherever available.

I use monstrous amounts of data. But with wifi just about everywhere, we have yet to break the 1gb barrier even with my selfish data usage.

/shrugs

I've never understood how people can chew through so much data every month.

Here's my usage with my AT&T unlimited data plan. I'd be SOL if I didn't have unlimited data lol.

Running speed tests uses A LOT OF DATA. That and having Spotify on high quality.

Just out of curiosity--have you been throttled?

My data usage is all over the map. Anywhere between 1GB and and 6.5GB per month. I stream a lot of music and some video. The gym doesn't have public wifi.

I use 1-1.5gb per month on my iPhone 5 and use wifi wherever possible. I only wish I could take my moms unlimited data plan and switch it with my 2gb plan so I can watch Netflix whenever, since she uses barely any data on here GS4 on Verizon. I

I'm not sure how I go over 2GB, but I always end up going over every month. I'm happy though that I was grandfathered into the unlimited plan.

Not since March 2012. Funny how I went way over 5GB and still had normal speeds. I think they did away with that, or its done regional now.

How many unlimited people can there be left anyway?

and they never told me!!

OF COURSE NOT!

Is like bank overdrafts. They nice to call u, Mr Smith, ur over drafted, want to proceed? NOPE. They just let u drown and send u the big bill later.

That's interesting--so you were throttled at one point but not anymore? As I said, the most I've used is 6.5 GB but wondered if I could get away with more. I'm switching Internet providers next week and there will be a gap where I don't have wifi. :D

Realistically I average around 3Gb per month

Never exceeded 4.5GB

I've always had unlimited data tariffs, previously O2 which usually achieved 2-3Mbps on 3G

Now I'm on three and my average usage has risen a lot. Much more video, film and music use now.

It would be rude not to with 3G speeds like this

Edit
Seems my usage pales into insignificance looking at these other posts. Home and work has wifi maybe that's why.

Oh I definitely was. I was throttled every month they if I usually went over 2GB. Like I said before, I haven't noticed any decrease in speeds since about March 2012. I couldn't have used as much as I have if I was throttled. I believe when I was throttled it like 50kbps down with low pings.

I recommend giffgaff.... They're PAYG but offer "goodybags" that expire after a month, so basically a contract you're not tied in to. I use them and find them great! :)

I just been thinking I think it's iTunes Match that milks the data allowance. All music in the cloud milks the data allowance. No one here in the UK offers "unlimited" data allowance apart from Three. Apparently there the worst network for voice calls.

Sounds very unprofessional use phone for work too!

I'm on Verizon, and I think I use about 5 gb out of 6 gb from my family plan. That with my iPhone 5, a 4S, an HTC 3G thing, and an iPad 4th gen with LTE. Before my iPhone 5 when I had a blackberry (also before the iPad was added) we had unlimited, and I used less than 1 gb.

I don't have wifi in my college apt, but I try to use it on campus and around town. The big jump probably has to do with available apps for BB versus the App Store. I also had Internet access at home previously and used my MacBook instead of my phone.

I use less than 500MB even though I have unlimited (throttled after 5GB used). I use my phone mostly at home where I have wifi and I try not to watch videos unless I'm on wifi.

Plus, I still only get 2G at my school because T-Mobile hasn't refarmed the 1900 MHz spectrum and I have a 4S so I don't have the patience to use much data there anyways.

I've had an iphone 5 since launch day and have never used less than 50Gb per month, most months I average between 100-150Gb of data use....

this costs me less than £20/ $30 per month :p

*** damn!!! And I thought I used a lot!!! The hell do you do on your phone to wrack up that much??? Porn??? lol.

So far 3.457 GB of my unlimited data plan on t-mobile I am expecting this to rise soon because school is starting and I usually use my phone for tethering and other stuff. During school usage it usually is at about 6-7 GB but not much more than that.
