Your friend's success in paying off her loans is far more impressive than mine. My job, thankfully, is not minimum wage, so it's amazing that she was able to accomplish that. I simply try to make as big of an extra payment on my loans as I can each month (which is in addition to the minimum payment that automatically deducts from my checking account monthly). I live a relatively spartan lifestyle, so I have extra money to rid myself of the debt. Other folks would probably buy things like beds to put their mattresses on. I will focus on those luxuries afterward the loans are finished.![]()
You are my hero.
It's people like you I hear stories about when they start a business, let's say high tech or fashion or whatever, and they borrow a few thousand from mom and dad or friends, work for free hour after hour in garage, then move out to small warehouse in industrial side of town, but later end up becoming a huge company.
One local lady worked 14 hours a day, 7 days a week doing men's clothing from a spare upstairs bedroom, opened a small retail shop, then others, then a large factory and built a small empire and employed a lot of locals. She later moved to catalogs and got some traction nationally. She was ridiculously frugal, even when rich, but kept on expanding. She worked 14 hours a day into her old age and up until the time she died and never stopped experimenting with designs. She was on a mission, and it was never money as some would suggest, and some say she revolutionized the industry in this area not really known for clothing. Fellow small town local Rachel Roy also started out with similar story when she wasn't at local dress shop and built an empire from scrath.
