I was a little curious about what I paid out so far for my 2009 MacPro. Usually, I just make a rough estimate and close my eyes to the rest.:eek: This time I detailed it out. I was wondering what others paid for their setups after they were done with their modifications...

$3,237.47 TOTAL PAID FOR MACPRO - All prices include tax and shipping.

Yikes. I wouldn't pay $286 for Steve Jobs to hand deliver it.

    2006 pro with Apple 23" LCD and 4 drives + iSight - 1000 us

    2 Xeon 5355 quad cores 620 less 200 to sell the 5150s - 420 us

    upgrade the 4gb RAM to 8 - 140

    ati 3870 with Accelero cooler - 250

iSight mount for 23" - 40 (darnit, had no choice)

    Total: $1,850 US

I know, that's not typical for an Octo-core Pro with all the trimmings. I'm lucky to have been at the right place when a corporate fire sale occurred. Worth every penny so far, although it's not my primary machine.

Hmm, all together I'm under $3,600

That's for the original 2006 2.66 Quad, the upgrade to 8-cores, the addition of 10GB RAM (making 12GB total), 8 HDDs (totaling 8TB total), two G5 gaming mice, and two 24" wide TN LCDs by LG.

If I count my audio interfaces, MIDI keyboards & control surfaces, drawing tablets, and etc. etc. then it's much more than that though.

Here are a list of stuff that I've purchased for my Mac Pro. However, I really don't remember what I paid for all this stuff (probably a good thing... Ignorance is bliss)...

    8 sticks of A-Data 2GB RAM
    4 x 1TB Seagate hard drives
1 x Pioneer DVR-116D (the original Optiarc died)
1 x Optiarc AD-7191S (got this instead of Pioneer because it supports Lightscribe)
    1 x Airport card
1 x EVGA 8800GT (flashed by me and later replaced by the following card)
1 x EVGA 8800GTS (flashed by me and later replaced by the following card)
1 x XFX 4870 1GB (flashed by me and later replaced by the following card)
    1 x EVGA GTX 285 Mac Edition
1 x IR receiver from MacBook Pro (so that I can use an Apple Remote with my Mac Pro)
    1 x Tactile Pro Keyboard
    1 x Wireless Mighty Mouse

The following, I already had left over from my previous Mac Pro or are shared among several of my Macs:

    Dell 3007WFP-HC monitor
    Wacom Intuos2 9x12 tablet
    Samsung CLX-3175fn colour laser
    SoundMatters Mainstage speaker system
    Linksys NSS4000 NAS w/ 4 x 1TB Seagate hard drives
    Drobo w/ 4 x 1.5TB Seagate hard drives

    $0 (Out-of-warranty free replacement for my G5)

    One 2.66GHz Quad-Core Intel Xe

1x Samsung 2243swx $143.09 (triple stacked coupon - it's a TN panel, but used within it's limitations, it's still very nice)

Kind of the opposite of the 'let me show you how much I spent' theme, but I'm still pretty happy with it...

Don't know the real calculation, but here goes:

    2.8 x 8 mac pro EOL 1799
    23" ACD 150
    8GB ram 150
    23" ACD 400
    2 x desk arms for mounts 100

Had the HD's from an old setup. Along with most other things.

However I did buy 4 EOL mac pros from Apple and one quad off of here, so I made nearly 2000 off reselling them, so it was free to me.

If that's how you put it, then I've just spent nil for my Mac Pro Nehalem, which was an AppleCare replacement of my Mac Pro Clovertown...? :D The rest of my stuff are basically carried over from what's left over of my Mac Pro parts and peripherals.

I'll post around once I get my 12GB RAM and AppleCare... and that's when this thread's still alive of course.... :p

    CORRECTION:

    -$86 = Sold 4GB (2x2GB) FB-DIMM RAM from my Old Mac Pro
    $86 = Seagate Barracuda ES 750GB

Still comes around nil for my new Mac Pro.

The End of Life Mac Pros were 1799 each for business customers.

The 23" ACD I bought after I bought 3 or 4 of the EOLs and sold them for a profit, only to wish I would have kept one. I bought a package of a quad 2.8 plus 23" ACD off here for 2,000. One day after I bought it, I found another EOL mac pro for 1799 in Kansas. Bought that one, had to sell the quad. I took the wireless, second DVD drive and some ram out of the quad, sold it for 1850. So for $150 I got another DVD burner, 2GB more of ram, 23" ACD and a wireless card for my 2.8x8.

Then I just got ram from OWC and another 23" off of craigslist. But to find a 23" on craigslist for 400 took me nearly 2 months. Most people wanted 500 minimum for non perfect units with no box, it was closer to 600.

Slowly I built a great machine I think for cheap.
