ive heard great things about aaron hillegass's cocoa programming for mac osx but ive also heard you need to have some knowledge of c first. how much do you have to know? if i already know python and a good amount of java will i be able to pick it up as i go or should i read a book on c or objective-c first?

I learned basic ObjC in about a week coming from a primarily Java background. You should be fine.
