A lot of people say they would "do anything" or "suffer anything" for the sake of their children. I'm wondering just how far that really goes.

Would you create a disadvantage for another person's child so that your own could prevail in some way? What if it were a life and death situation?

How about starting a new thread to post your ethical dilemma questions about parent/child relationships. I'm not sure your question is in the same spirit as the OP's.

I think it goes along quite well with the current topic. Otherwise, its just everyone posting about how much they love their children--and other people praising them for loving their children. Clearly, if one watches the news enough, that's not true for a lot of people. If you don't want to respond to my posts, then ignore them and continue the lovefest.

Point taken, you have every right to post what you want and the community can decide where to go with this thread. But in reading your original and subsequent posts, your wording makes it sound as if you want to go in an entirely different direction to satisfy curiosity about how or why some parents go to unethical extremes or obsessions that harm others in the name of love for their children. To me, though tangential, it's an entirely different topic and therefore worthy of it's own thread. In fact having worked with children and families for several years as a professional counselor I agree with your question and your premise. In fact if you do decide to start a new thread then I will be happy to post in it, which I have no doubt will "make your day". :D

I was just trying to avoid those who exclaim "There's already a thread for that topic! DO YOUR RESEARCH!!!" You can't win on the forums sometimes. :)

Anyway, it's hilarious sometimes to enter the forums and see a thread where someone is trying to get praise for their already socially acceptable/expected behaviors --like loving your kids. Of course you love your kids. A more interesting thread would be "I hate my kids and want to sell them on ebay".

My children are #1 and always will be. There's nothing better than being a dad.

Agreed. It is amazingly wonderful and frustrating at the same time.

Trust me, every parent has been there. I sometimes think, "Now I know why some animal eat their young!" But fortunately, those times are not very often.
