I'm on AT&T and have 200 txt, the $40 min plan, and $30 data plan and my first bill (preview) came out to be $124 (1 month pro-rated) so I'm paying about $62 a month (employee discount).

Anyone paying less w/ Tmobile that has the iPhone 3GS? Also, if I jailbreak and switch to tmobile, can I keep my phone # from AT&T after I cancel?

Did the first month include activation? I'm curious to know what the total cost for the $40 calling, $15 text plus data comes to with fees and stuff. I'm having the hardest time justifying more than $85 a month for (crappy) phone service.

It didn't come up on the "bill preview" that was on the AT&T website. I might not have to pay activation because I had a FAN added on a week after I got my phone. I'll know for sure on July 20th.

I'm thinking about switching to tmobile pre-paid since its only $100 for one year.

It would be hard to do cheaper on T-Mobile's non-corporate-discount postpaid plans. I pay just a few dollars more ($69-71 including taxes) but I get more minutes and txt's... and EDGE, at this point for me, it's a countdown of how long I can live with EDGE, although when it's working well it's really not half bad (and 3G doesn't work well itself often enough, at least on my friends' iPhones...).

:p

The texts are no where near enough. But MMS are included in them (takes 4 SMS messages for one MMS Message)

Although for about $11 i think we can get unlimited. I'll stick to this for now though.

Well I don't have my 3GS yet but I'll be on exactly the same plan...450 minutes, "unlimited" data (do I really have to say why I quoted that?), no texting (have it blocked completely)...$70 per month...$80 with taxes.

And you don't cancel your AT&T account when you port your number over. You go to T-Mobile and say where you want to port from, and what number you want to port...and they send through a request to AT&T to have it ported. Once the number is ported then AT&T will automatically close the account unless there are other phones on the same account.

Wait, the ATT store told me company discounts (FAN) do not apply to iPhones.

Is this false? If I can use my company discount, I'll get my wife and I 3Gs this week... (21% FAN)

I'm in NZ and don't have an iPhone, but if I did then I'd probably pay about $25/month. That's with no term contract.

It doesn't apply to the iPhone but the company discount does apply for your monthly voice plan (and some accessory discounts etc., depends on what your FAN is) which brings down your monthly bill with a few savings.

With regards to the topic, I pay $70 inclusive of taxes with 650 minutes, 750 SMS and the iPhone data plan.

That's what gets me about the cellular companies in the US. We have
an inferior network and pay more than everyone else. The data plan
should be $20 and each plan $10 minimum per month cheaper imo.

Now the Justice dept is supposedly about to investigate the exclusive phone deals and other issues.

Verizon and ATT control it all. Time for a forced breakup of these companies
like Ma Bell was in the 80's.
