As of now, the X feels like a Pro line-up. The normal ones (8/8S/9/9S) will be like the MacBook Air and the next year downgraded to “MacBook” territory.
I might be wrong, but I think the X will always be the top of the line, more expensive phone, targeted to tech-savvy consumers.
For the average consumer, the 8 is more than enough and they won’t understand why the X is more expensive. This is what I see from comments from coworkers and friends.[/QUOTE
The average consumer is staying away from the 8. It’s a non-seller. They are buying the X in droves. Apple is not going to support a device that’s not being bought and nobody is buying the 8. The 8+ is selling only because there isn’t a plus version of the X. X is the top of the line. It has the future of the iPhone in it not the 5th generation of a tired line. The cost this year is do to supply limitations and the tenth anniversary. If there weren’t supply issues then the 8 would be the X. They could issue a “pro” model that would include a stylus and PIP. That would please the tech-savvy consumers. But upgrading a phone that’s not selling is bad business practice.
