I can only think of 3 reasons. 1. To properly estimate shipping. 2. To add the correct weight to an empty box for a scam. 3. To determine the correct weight in fear of having been scammed.

The reason I asked was because in my head I was thinking it was option #2. I may be wrong for thinking that, but like I said earlier, it just seemed like an odd thing to have to know.

Since the iPad 2 itself weighs 1.35 pounds I would guess the shipping weight is right about 2 pounds total. If you're looking to estimate shipping costs I would round up to 3 pounds THEN add the packaging weight.
Thank you. To answer the question, I bought an iPad 2 that I'm auctioning off, and needed to know the shipping weight so I could figure out delivery costs in advance. (I then realized the difference between 2 lbs and 3 lbs was about a dollar, so it didn't much matter, but better to be exact)
