Something is going on as my iPad 2 (64gb ATT) goes 3-4 days and only loose a few percent. It is not turned off but just in suspend.

my ipad drains 1-4% overnight. wifi on, 3G and bluetooth off, enabled push notifications.

i loose about 9-10% browsing for about an hour.

I use mine to surf the web at night and then put the smart cover on afterwords and disconnect the wifi. Mine drains about 2% in 7 hours overnight

100% all day yesterday

I plug mine in every night for recharging and syncing, so I can't really attest to it's overnight charge. However, just yesterday I had a pretty impressive observation regarding my battery...

I left the house a 9:15, put the ipad 2 in my car and used it at lunch for a few minutes....put it back in the car. Got home at about 4:15, opened it for about a minute and checked my iCam app....closed it. Then, around 6:00 pm, I opened it to browse and show the wife something.... the battery still registered 100%!!!

I was astounded! An approximate 9 hour standby of no registered battery drain!

Granted, I didn't really use it much at all. Also, I have the 3G model, but no service for it yet (mostly using the wifi when I'm out and about) So, my drain is lessened by the lack of push notification.

Sorry for your situation, not sure why you're having it...

I had really crap battery life for a while on my iPad 2 and fixed it by letting it run out of battery and charge to 100%. Now i loose 2/3% over night when i was loosing 15-20%!

Worth a try :)

Here is something i request you to do and let us know how it works
Back up your ipad2
and then restore or set it as a new ipad on intunes
and then sync the content back. it should fix your problem

I lost 3% last night in 8 hours. AT&T 3G on, WiFi on and connected, push notifications on for email and words with friends, bluetooth off. My iPad has never fully died, I plug it in around 25-35% then let it fully charge. I get a good 8-10 hours of usage per charge! I cannot complain!

I lose less than 2% at night. Key is to keep the apps running in the background to a minimum. Its like a normal computer, you dont leave everything running all night! and decrease the frequency of push notifications from things like facebook and mail.

Why are people "closing" apps?

I didn't think we needed to "close" apps.

Yeah, what's up with people closing apps? Recently I've heard about this talk so often, either for iPhone or iPad. The whole purpose of iOS' multitasking is so we don't have to treat the app switcher like a task manager and worry about 'closing' apps.

In an ideal world, this would be true. Unfortunately, there are some rogue apps that continue to drain battery even while in the background. Hence the constant app and iOS updates.

so an update.... last night i restarted my ipad, made sure that all the apps were closed in the background, and left it on airplane mode.

i slept for just under 7 hours and there was an 8% battery drain. (34%->26%).

i have fully drained and recharged the battery twice now. i will try backing up and restoring it next, but i'm starting to think i have a defective battery.

How exactly would these apps do that? From what I read it sounds like while you are in an app, and then push the home button, the app has a small finite amount of time to clean up before the OS shuts it completely down.

I dunno, I don't buy the argument about 'rogue apps'. I can understand if jailbroken and using backgrounder or something similar.

Last night 37% then this morning 28%, couple of apps open, wifi connected but no email push/fetch.

Also have issue on wake from sleep, rotation of screen doesnt work without tuning off/on ipad.

Put it down to newness!

So last night i closed all applications, killed ping, and now it drops 2%. so its either ping or the apps using the juice at night.

Replacing my flaky router solved the problem for me. Went for 10% or more a night to 1%.

Sounds like we have the same problem--lost 9% last night with all apps closed and push off. My old iPad 1 never lost more than 1-2% and that was without all of this app management and with push turned on. I've been surfing the web for about 15 minutes so far today and am already down another 7%. I've had Ping shut off for a few weeks now and have drained the battery twice already--looks like I'll be scheduling an appt with the local Apple store soon.

Why wouldnt you close your apps? Why leave them running in the background needlessly if you're not going to be using them for the entire eight or nine hours you're asleep?

I play games right before bed...apps like UNO, Scrabble, Angry Birds, Superbrothers:Sword & Sworcery, and Lara Croft Guardian of the Light. If you click the home button and leave mid-game to go do something else -- like check email, etc -- the game is suspended where you left off. In other words, running. Would you leave your playstation or xbox on all night while you sleep?

Multitasking is intended for just that, multitasking. Switching between games, email, the Internet, and music. It's not a multitask to leave all these running and go to sleep for eight hours. That's just being lazy.

My ipad 2 (att, 16gb), barely loses any battery power when sleeping at night. Sometimes, its the same exact % as when I left it. I think the op has something wrong with his/hers.

same..the most i have seemed to lose overnight is 3%

i am definitely going to be calling Apple Care. yesterday, I completely restored my iPad, let the battery drain down completely, and it still drained 10% overnight.

granted, i didn't turn on airplane mode, but my 3G signal is full bars where I live, and when turning off airplane mode the night before I lost 8%, which is still unacceptable.

it's good to know at least that nobody else is having these issues so it's just a defect in mine.

You obviously don't understand iOS. Pressing the home button closes the app. Apps do not run in the background (unless an app is using a specific API like music streaming, ongoing VoIP call, etc).

It's not being lazy. Check with steve jobs.. If you remember last year "if you have to use a task killer they blew it".

I power mine down each night so it doesn't lose any charge while its not being used. Is there anything wrong with doing that every night? Why does everyone leave theirs on when they're not using it?

Habit from how I use my iMac. Never shut it off at night so it starts up nice and fast when I need it the next day. I see no reason to shut off iPad so I don't.
