industry standard display port?????????

im sorry im gonna have to stop you right here...

im a mac fan as much as the next guy here but HDMI out is the industry standard but apple is too stingy to pay what is probably like a $0.50 royalty fee to add it to their machines.

dvi was more of the standard than the display port.
display port is purely a business cost saving move, not something revolutonary.

Let me stop you as well.

You can have several standards that do the same kind of thing, but aren't identical, ie. both USB and Firewire are standards.

VGA is A standard.

DVI is A standard.

Mini DVI is A standard.

HDMI is A standard.

Display Port is A standard.

Mini Display Port will become a standard as well. Even if Apple is the only one using it its still a standard, albeit not a widely used one. The only way it would not be a standard would be if there were a competing mini Display Port connector.

I Wont become a standard if no other manufacturers see the point in using a MINI connector on a Screen, just like Mini DVI isnt a standard, the only thing that supports it is iMac's and Older MacBook's, thats not a standard, and Mini Display Port will never become a standard either.

As soon as the first 3rd party MDP cable is released its a standard. Just not a widely adopted one.

For all intents and purposes it really doesn't matter if no one else supports MDP just so long as there is a cable available. The fact that Mini DVI wasn't adopted by the industry never stopped me from hooking my MacBook up to which ever display I needed.
