General How much free space does iOS 8 need to work properly?

How much free space does iOS 8 need to work properly?

I'm asking this because of the Apple decision of dropping 32 GB devices but keep offering 16 GB ones.

Realistically, even filling the device up all the way to only a 2-3 gigabytes free, it will still run fine.
