How much is a uMBP 15" bottom replacement?

I would like to replace my 1st generation unibody MacBook Pro's bottom case and I am interested in knowing the price.

Can I purchase and replace the bottom case at the local Apple Store (I'm in Sydney)? I'm in warranty, if that's a factor.

You can't get the part from the Apple Store but there are sites that sell the piece. Search around for something like "macbook pro parts" or something. I know I have seen this part for sale on a few sites but i cannot think of them at the moment.

Warranty has nothing to do with it. If its damaged you're on the hook for the repair if you bring it into apple. They won't sell you the part to do the repair yourself.


Your only option is to search the web, but because the unibody MBPs are relatively new, you may have a bit of a difficult time locating one. I did an informal search and failed to come up with any. What I did find (non unibody MBPS) bottom case was going for around 50 to 75 bucks just for the part.
