just curious.

hard to believe I've had mine for 2 years and 2 months now and still humming along really well.

Would be lying if I said I wasnt tempted by some stellar 14" MBP M1 Pro deals since the 2nd gen is out but part of me thinks I should hold and see what happens with the large screen MacBook Air thats rumored and also possibly a compact one, even though I think the former is a bit more intriguing as a new form factor.

But in terms of power, it's been more than sufficient and then some even the base 8/256. Though it is nice all the Pro's start at 16/512

Also a bit worried about losing the tapered design that seems it's never coming back. But I am a bit envious of the mini LED screens in the Pros. Even though my MacBook Air screen is perfectly serviceable and not at all terrible on its own

mines still in mint condition, 100% battery health, and only 100 charges on it.

i think not wanting to spend more money, for something that is already excellent, is the main deterrent

Performance isn’t an issue at all, would like a nicer screen but I’m sure I will have a nicer one in the next handful of years and in the interim - whatever?

loving the poll results so far of people holding out

seems im not the only one ! :D

My early 2020 MBA i5 on the other hand, not great performance or battery life or thermals- glad I moved up to the M1 late 2020 model, even being a same year upgrade.

The only legitimate reason I have to upgrade is that I kind of under-spec'ed this M1 Air when I bought it.

My usage changed to more graphic design work, and now the 256 GB SSD is proving too small. I've resorted to plugging in a flash drive (ugh) to house my ever-growing Creative Cloud sync folder. Other than that, the base 8 GB of RAM seems fine, and the machine is generally quite zippy for whatever I throw at it.

Really I only need the same M1 Air with a bigger SSD.

The angel on my one shoulder is telling me to pick up an Apple Refurbished M1 Air with more storage and maybe a 16 GB RAM for ~$1100. The devil on my other shoulder is telling me to spend like $1600+ on an M2 Air or maybe a refurbished 14" M1 MacBook Pro.

In a month and a half I'll have had my M1 MacBook Air for two whole years! Also in late spring or during the summer I plan to buy an M2 Pro Mac Mini as my second Apple Silicon Mac, as I'd love to have a more beefed-up Apple Silicon desktop (with around 32 GB of unified memory and a 1 TB SSD) so I don't have to always use my M1 MacBook Air in clamshell mode. It's currently my fastest and most powerful Mac on hand, but once I get the aforementioned Mini I'll still use the Air for when I'm on the go and such; it suited me pretty well when I went to Anthro New England last month.

My M1 MacBook Air is in its box and currently being used as a backup for my M2 MacBook Air. As such, its useful lifetime is probably only another year for me. I'll almost certainly buy a new M3 MacBook Air when they are available and at that point my M2 MacBook Air becomes the backup computer and I'll sell the M1 MBA which hopefully still has a little value.

I have a 16gb 1 tb m1 macbook air. I plan to keep it until it breaks but for my usage it will do even the heavy lifting graphic work for the most part.

The MAIN reason I'd want top switch to a 14" version unfortunately is because of the availability of ports.

Couldn't choose between 2 & 3 more years, but if possible, I won't upgrade until they get rid of the notch. Same thing with my iPhone 13, that was an upgrade from iPhone 7, so I can live with the notch, but my next phone will be notchless.
Out of curiosity, what is the issue with the notch? Did you genuinely prefer when the entire top of the device was just thick unused black space and the usable display area was taken up by the status bar or menu bar?

probably gonna change in 4 or 5 years, when we get double stacked oled and 120hz hopefully.

i'll get the 15" which by that time will already be super expensive i feel

i hope they start with 16gb of ram tho

I foresaw this being a problem for me, so I went with the base M1 Air and just upgraded the SSD to 1Tb. Very glad I did.

If the performance bump from M2 to M3 is not a lot more than from M1 to M2, then I will at the very least keep it for a year more(assuming M3 drops within the next 12 months).

Add to that the fact that you don't get a full-fledged upgrade if you pick the base configuration and the value/$ for M2 Air starts dropping fast by comparison to M1 Air.

Altogether, I really only see the M2 lineup as a good option for those who don't own any kind of Apple Silicon Mac yet.

No option for “until no more macOS upgrades and/or security updates”.

The reason why I purchase the M1 MBA 16/1TB is due to it not having a fan and the wedge design.

The new M2 MBA design is not appealing but I have no reason to upgrade until this thing gets no more macOS Upgrades. I usually remote into it via iPadPro and get my work done. One of those big factors with Safari on iPP is that I cannot view some Adobe PDF documents.

Yeah “What’s a computer?” 🙄

I literally did the same thing. I sold my M1 MBA 8/256 because I was annoyed by the lack of ram and space. So I sold it on Swappa. Then I bought a used M1 MBA 16/512 on swappa--which I have been using for several months now. This thing is perfect. I will use it for years.

ummmmm I ended up getting a used M1 14” MBP since they are cheaper now. Gonna sell the M1 MBA on eBay and see how much I can get for it.

Honestly the MBA is great but I like the refresh rate of the MBP much more. Also, even with 512GB the MBA didn’t have enough storage for me

I imagine I'll get 5 years easily out of this thing and even then it might be a nice backup computer. My last Macbook Air served us for 7-8 years and only was just replaced by another M1 that my wife is using.

Speed is great.
At least five years for a Mac. My second fastest Mac is a 2010 Mac Pro, and earlier today I was in the shop listening to music streamed from a 2012 Mac mini.

Even if I get another computer, I won't get rid of the MBA. It will just become a portable web browsing and emailing device for use around the house. If this happens someday, my iPad won't get nearly as much use.

I would upgrade for a MBA 15".
I love this device, however I don't like lacking on MagSafe feature.
The screen is often too small for some works.
I do think that the 13" device is too narrowed, it could easily have more length.

Internally I have nothing to claim.

I have a M1 MacBook Pro and I plan to keep mine until about late 2025 possibly 2026.
I bout my Broadwell Intel MacBook Pro 13 inch back in September 2015 and I was able to upgrade to several releases of macOS and still on Big Sur:
Yosemite - 10.10
El Capitan - 10.11
Sierra - 10.12
High Sierra - 10.13
Mojave - 10.14
Catalina - 10.15
Big Sur - 11.0
Monterrey - 12.0 - which I have not upgraded to yet.

Thats 8 releases which is really amazing.

For the M1, I expect 8 releases too, especially with how well optimized macOS is for Apple Silicon.

So, you could probably still be using the M1 MacBook Air up to 2028.

That sounds like exactly the upgrade I need!

I haven't used Swappa. How is it?
