I have a Mac 2.8Ghz i7, i have been converting some movies to load into itunes and have noticed after reading this thread that my Swap memory is maxing out therefore i need to add additional memory.
If i add additional memeory will this speed up the conversion process or is it only dependent on the speed of your processor??

Can anyone recommend 8Gb of ram to add, i'm in Australia but will buy from the US as the aussie dollar is strong against the greenback at the moment.

8GB might help you, but much more won't be hugely beneficial if you're just encoding video (and not doing NLE).

I wouldn't buy from overseas; OWC is USD$100 + $6 for the "discount" shipping, and about $30-odd for the more reliable options. You can get two of these Corsair 4GB sticks from PC Case Gear, plus $12 express post.

Thanks elithrar, i thought that would be the case but it will allow me to complete other tasks on the computer while encoding as my computer struggled when i had iphoto open and sorting out some folders.

8Gb Ram for under $100 sounds pretty good to me.
