Does the wide color gamut display really make a noticeable difference? I’m thinking of upgrading since the downpayment would only be 60$ for me...

Not much, but I'd still suggest the X over the 8+ if you want a big upgrade screen wise

I genuinely haven't noticed any difference to be honest (I upgraded from the 6S to 8 Plus in December).

IMO the screens on the 6s/+ were the best of the this style of iphones. Not a fan of the True Tone technology built into the 8/+ and the 7s has a bluish tint that I didn’t care for. Unless you want the other upgrades, don’t upgrade solely for the display.

In my case, I really appreciate the True Tone on the 8 Plus. It's easier on the eyes and overall just looks better than when the feature is turned off. When I turn it off, I notice right away a bluish tint which isn't pleasant once your eyes have adjusted to True Tone. Over all I don't believe you'll see a big difference between the 2 screens. I had a 6 before I upgraded to the 8 Plus and the only things I can really say I benefited from is the bigger screen and True Tone.

Other than true tone, the screens are pretty much the same.

One of the significant differences between the 6s and iPhone 8 display is the 6s has a much bluer and starker tone , where the 8 is warmer and more toned down.

You must have TMobile. Get it through apple directly and pay 150 for a down payment

I can't speak to the 6S but I can attest this was true for the 6, which was the nicest display I ever had. I remember when I got my SE that it was more washed out than the 6, as expected, so I was expecting to be blown away when I bought my 8 only to find that the 8 was comparable to the SE.

The 6 colors popped best of any phone, the P3 gamut makes them toned down. More accurate, sure, but it's not like the 6 was a cartoon phone like Samsung, it just had that nice extra pop to it that made it so nice. Was also a cooler screen.

The iPhone 6 and 6S were very similar. The 6S display was my favorite, it just had a very white, blue, stark tone to it. But I will say the more toned down display on the iPhone 7/8 is not as harsh on the eyes, given we know how blinding Apple’s displays can be, especially in low light conditions.
