I had that exact same model. I kept one of the 2GB chips it came with and upgraded it with a 4GB SODIMM DDR2 667 chip from newegg. It worked just fine! Do not try and upgrade that specific iteration to 8GB though or you will have issues running OS X. I believe the chipset that iMac ran was able to support 8GB but OS X was unable to properly address that much. What OWC says is accurate.
